Default 5 channel amp

Hello everyone!

I have a WRX, and I am currently in the market for an amp. Im looking to do a modest SQ setup just because the stock speakers and HU SUCK!! I just bought a Kenwood Exceleron DNX 692 double din navi/DVD head unit. I think I am gonna go with a 5 ch. amp. Im gonna amp the front and rear speakers and go with a single 8 or 10in sub. Probably in a sealed box in order to take up as little trunk room as possible.

So, could anyone recommend some amps for me? I went to a local shop and they recommended a JL XD7005. Its rated at 75W x 4 @ 4ohms and 300W x 1 @ 2 ohms. Id like to stay under $600 for the amp.

Also, For the front speakers im gonna be getting some decent 2 way component speakers and a decent set of coax speakers for the rear. I was looking at Focal speakers possibly. Open for other suggestions tho.

Thanks in advance for any help!

look online and on ebay for kicker ix900.5's and dx600.5's and kx800.5...all them amps will do over rated and perform well.....the ix and kx are full range D class amps so they are small...really small....you can find refurbished ones on ebay for much cheaper than 600

If you like the ones you are already looking at they are very nice I don't know off the top of my head if it fits your budget but some vocals on that jl 5ch would be a legit setup unless you are asking for opinions b cause you know you don't want those brands already..

I have been away from the stereo scene for a good 5 years or so. But based on what I remember, I dont have any issues with going with the JL amp or Focal speakers. I remember JL amps always being quality products, just a little on the pricey side compared to some other quality brands. And I;ve always heard good things about Focal speakers.

With that being said, I am still open to suggestions just to see what else is out there! Chances are I'd rather support the local shop since they will be doing all the install work. However, I don't wanna ignore all other options.

Oh ok that zed audio amp I was thinking of is a 6ch amp but you could bridge the last two channels effectively making it a 5ch. Powerful and clean as it gets!!! ZED Audio Leviathan - II 6 channel amplifier

But u can see it's kinna pricey. Worth it imo tho

If I stick with a single amp to power my whole setup and keep it in the 700-1000W range, a stock battery and charging system should be fine, right? I will upgrade my chassis and engine ground. I don't remember off the top of my head how accessible my alt it. But if its accessible ill upgrade my alt. to battery power cable as well(big 3 I suppose, if I wanted shorten things up lol). Ill probably stick with some good 4Gauge wire. Im thinking itll be sufficient without adding too much weight to the car. I dont wanna add TOO much weight to the car with this build. Maybe once its at 350hp I wont care about the weight AS much. lol

Default Re: 5 channel amp

do big 3 in some 1/0 welding cable off of ebay and grab some 1/0 connectors while your there to might as well do 1/0 the diffrence in weight between 4G and 1/0 is nothing....maybe 1 lb between the 2 and the 1/0 will never be overloaded....at most you might have to upgrade your stock battery to a AGM battery if you get some voltage drops
and keep in mind is the 5 channel amp is a AB class and 800 true RMS its going to pull like its 1000rms cuz AB amps like current and get hot if run hard....meanwhile full range D class amps can sound as good and pull like its 800rms and actually be 800rms

The JL XD7005V2 says its a class D amp. Also, I dont plan on pushing it a whole lot. With the stock setup, I need to have the volume a few clicks under 100% for it to be noticeable while driving with the windows up. lol Im just looking for something that doesn't have to be at 100% all the time to be heard.

I'm thinking just the head unit will fix that issue. But not much is going on with the 2015 WRX right now as far as products being released for it. So, I think its a good time to work on the stereo until some more interesting stuff starts being released for the car.

I was browsing Crutchfield and I found a list of the 5 chanel amps that they sell. I came across the Alpine PDR-V75. Its $100 less than the JL and its got an extra 50W for the sub channel(350W). What do you guys think about the PDR-V75 Vs. the JL XD700/5v2?

The ZED leviathan and JL HD900/5 are the same price. Only difference is I can buy the JL locally and have an easier time with warranty if I have any issues.

The Leviathan is 190W per channel which is way overkill for the speakers ill be running. I guess it can always be tuned down. Also, I dont see any dimensions for the Zed amp. Im looking for something small in hopes itll fit under one of the seats in my car.

The overhead is nice.

Don't get me wrong ZED is a great company but when you toss warrenty work into the equation ZED has been slacking. There have been a few people who had a Dickenson of a time getting amps fixed and in working condition. Even some top know guys who know what the hell they are doing and don't get them started on trying to talk (name skips me atm) ZED.

JL is solid, so is ZED but when you can get a legit JL amp from a authorized retailer that makes warrenty work that much easier on you. Even if you would never have to use the warrenty. That's a huge plus in my book. Enough to suggest it over ZED

Heck I was going to go with ZED but decided different. Went with Alpine instead. Sig has a couple but it's out of date. Now have a PDX f4, f6, and two M12s

Also, on top of easier warranty work you get product support. A shop is gonna be way more willing to help you out when you buy from them.

I've read that ZED just recently cranked up the price on all their products and ended a group buy or two because they couldn't get as much interest in their product as they wanted or something along those lines. That doesn't quite sit well with me when I try to consider buying one of their products. At least JL has consistently been expensive haha JK.
