Default Alpine Loudness Setting, Good or bad?

Hey guys, i have a Alpine CDA-105 headunit with 2v pre-outs. I read the manual recently and i found out that there is a loudness setting. The manual says " Loudness introduces a special low-and-high reguency emphasis at low listening levels. This compensates for the ear's decreased sensitibity to bass and treble sound." it sounds really good with loudness setting on, by having this setting enabled. Would this clip my amp if the volume is too high? i listen around volume 12-15 out of 30i think, and amp gains are correctly set using DMM. On your headunit do you guys turn on loudness or have it off?

Loudness shouldnt affect the signal going to the amp. At least I dont think it does. Normally loudness is a bad thing for a normal headunit, but if it makes it sound better for your system then more Power too you!!

ohh alright, it sounds good at low volumes of course. havent yet really cranked it up, but after searching around a bit more, having loudness on when cranking up the volume will probably distort. pretty much found the answer to my own problem

It looks to me like that does affect the signal going to your amp. Just set you're gains with the setting turned on and you should be fine.

Loudness setting will boost bass and treble at lower volumes, but usually when you crank up the deck it will not make a diff. Some decks will distort at higher volumes when loudness is on, however Alpine is a good Build and should not.

It will affect the signal going to the amps otherwise it would just sound the same.

I use loudness if my volume if low but I turn it off if I turn it up. It just doesn't sound good when the volume is turned up.

@odieoverclock
Are you saying that some headunits will adjust how much the low and highs are boosted as the volume changes, that is if loudness is on.

I'll agree more with your latter statement than your former

LOUD boosts your bass and treble. at what frequencies and what Q can vary. I keep my HU FLAT all the time. no bass boost, no loud, no treble up.

I delive the alpine starts to clip after volume 22 without loud activated and 18 when the loud mode is activaited. Not sure if every model is the same.

loudness will def effect things, its like a bass boost button. Unless alpine make it have a plateau effect, every volume will be boosted the same.

Exactly because loudness is a boost designed to be used at a lower volume it will work well. When you turn up your head unit trying to get loud it will introduce clipping sooner causing you not to be able to turn it up as loud. Same way a bass boost works on an amp.

Sorry to resurrect this. But, I have something of relevance (i think) to add to this. Alpine (along with many h/u's) defeat the loudness after a certain volume level is reached. But just like with many of them, they will start to distort before the cutoff is reached with loudness on in Alpine h/u's. The audible distortion (content based) starts as early as high teens-low 20's in volume as to it doesn't become audible on the same content until 25 or so without the loudness turned on.

If I was using my Alpines with external amps only and not the internal amp, I would take off loudness completely but seeing as how I have the 2 decks of theirs in cars where I'm utilizing the alpines internal amp, I leave loudness on.
