Re: Need help choosing Alpine Type-R, SA-12, RF-P3, or other.
I said hell with it and went and changed up again and went with these in all four of my factory enclosures.
JBL GTO938 3way 6X9s matched up to my JBL amp at 4x90rms Certified GTO938 | 6" x 9" 3-way multi-element loudspeaker | JBL US
Don't know if I screwed up or not? If anything I will buy the JBL MS-62C 6.5" 2-Way Component Speaker System for the front, and send one set of 6x9s back. It just seemed like it would be much easier to drop in the 6x9s that already have the factory spots there, and the 6x9s I got are rated really high, I actually saw them rated #1 on a few sites. I also have two spots up front in the sail that has factory 2.5 or 3 inch spots that I can fill with something to make the front louder?

personally, id just go with a single 6.5 kappa set up front
Infinity 60.9cs 6-1/2" 2-way Kappa Series Component Speakers
I'm looking into those right now, I do believe if you put more money in the front you will be better off, which I was doing so. I spent $160 on the JBL P660C 6-1/2" 2-way Power Series and they retail for $300. JBL P660C 6-1/2" 2-way Power Series Component Speakers System
Which I have right now but I'm having a little buyers remorse thinking I could have spent $25 more and got the JBL MS-62C which everyone is raving about for $25 dollars more. They are both rated very high and are retail the same price, but the JBL MS-62C are getting a lot of rave on a lot of forums. I don't know if I should have went with those? On the other hand......
I really like your advice with the Infinity 60.9cs 6-1/2" 2-way Kappa Series they have very good reviews and I can get them for about $70 less than what I paid for the JBLs. I'm really thinking about getting these right now. So what is you guys advice on the three components I'm considering Price is an issue I'm not loaded just a college student...
1. Stay with what I have
2. Save $70 and get the Infinity 60.9cs 6-1/2" 2-way Kappa Series
3. Pay $25 more and get the JBL MS-62C

Re: Need help choosing Alpine Type-R, SA-12, RF-P3, or other.
if you put those kappas on that amp it will be loud. i promise you that. no need for any more tweeters. I also agree with the above post on spending more money on the front. I don't even run rear speakers any more, theres no reason to if you have a quality set up front. 6.5 speakers *should* drop into the 6x9 cutouts. There are exceptions, but most of the time they will.
try it, if you find that you want rear fill, you can always install a 6x9 set after you save up a few more pennies. remember that buying quality from the start goes a long way. I know it hurts to dump all your money on one set of speakers, but I dont think you'd be disappointed

6.5 vs 6x9 is one of those arguments that will never end. There is absolutely no reason why a 6x9 cannot sound as good as a 6.5. The biggest reason I feel people have that perception is that very few high end comp sets or coaxials are 6x9. front 6.5 speakers are in far more cars, thats just a fact, and that's why few comps are cut to that size
an option you may want to look into is the infinity kappas. They tend to have very bright tweeters, and get quite loud. In a convertible, that little bit of extra high end might be what you need. I'm not 100% sure you'll find them for 175, but they should be within a couple dollars. They would lend themselves to amping a bit better than the dbs, and should do just as well on head unit power
Thanks for the reply I think I might just go back to 6x9s all the way around how my car is designed, it just seems like it will be a lot better install. The car came with a 6 way 2omh amp by infinity (replaced by my JBL 600 80x4 or 150x2). It was a surround with four 6x9s and two speakers in the sails. What does everyone think of just getting four good JBL 6x9s and two tweets or small speaker for the sails how it was made factory by infinity? I'm going to figure it out by the end of the weekend though.

PS we have sister cars *High five* Back at ya man now time to inspect what you did to yours. Maybe get a few tips?
Yeah I plan to build baffles , the thing is that I don't know if one set is better than the other, that's why I was asking because they both seem to have really good reviews. So I was thinking maybe someone here has heard both sets and could compare.
I also could get the Polk DBs for about $70 cheaper, but I don't know if I would be down grading and I'm not trying to do that. Basically my budget is about $175 for the front stage. I got the JBL P660C Power Series Component Speakers for half of retail, retail was $299 I got them for $150. They are cheaper on eBay but don't have an account.
The reason I was thinking about getting two sets is because I'm driving a convertible and I could put some tweets some where in the car so they sound good for the passengers and add more for myself also. You know top down wind blowing..................Damn its cold outside.......$%$$^

My Kicker 6x9s that I was going to run in the front and back I had to send back they were way to deep for my car. I just bought a set of JBL P660C 540 Watt 6.5" power Series 2-Way Components, I had a chance to get the JBL MS-62C 6.5 but they cost about $30 more did I make a bad move here? Because I can still send them back. Also now I have more problems because my car is suppose to have four 6x9s and I really didn't want 6x9s I have been told that a front stage with 6.5 round speakers would be better in front and in the back to get round speakers?
So now I have to make rings so the 6.5s fit and I'm still up in the air on getting 6x9s or 6.5s in the rear? It has opening for 6x9s along the side walls what do you guys think.
1. Are the JBL P660C Components equal to the JBL MS-62C 6.5 components because I can still send them back if the the JBL MS-62C would be that much better.
2. Should I get 6.5s for the back or go with 6x9s, from what I have read on the forums 6x9s suck compared to 6.5 round speakers?
3. Would this work get another set of components so I can run 4 tweets since I'm in a convertible and with the top down 4 tweets better than 2? Or would that cause cancellation with the front stage.
Don't use any rear speakers
Seriously, focus all the money and effort on getting the front stage as good as possible. Cars are for music, not surround sound.
Why would you want 4 tweets? Get a single pair of good efficient ones. Having multiples per side will cause comb filtering (two point sources spaced 1/4 wave apart will cause issues)
It'll be loud, but it;ll also sound harsh if you do that.

i think you should build baffles to put the 6.5" in the 6x9 holes i have done this it works well. i dont know the difference between the 2 sets but if its only a $30 difference i would go with the better set. if not those you could look into memphis mclass coaxils they are around $100 per pair and sound great

Just a little update got me a set of JBL P660C 540 Watt 6.5" Power Series 2-Way Components, I had a chance to get the JBL MS-62C 6.5 but they cost about $30 more did I make a bad move here? With all these problems I think I'm just going to get everything ready for the spring and buy more electrical upgrades and equipment as I go along through this winter. Plus I'm getting new carpet and I can hide everything under it. So I think I'm going to hold off on installing all of my equipment until this spring I'm in Ohio and its starting to get in the 40s here almost everyday and I don't have a garage, which sucks.
I took out the cars stock amp, the car came with Infinity surround system with tiny 160 or 240 2ohm stock amp. I had to remove the whole passenger side seat because that's where I'm Thinking I'm going to install the new JBL 600 watt amp to power my new JBL P660C component set and the rears. But I'm having so many small problems that are taking up so much time and I don't want to rush it I want to do it right. so what do you guys think JBL 6.5 or 6x9 in the rears?
I'm just not sure yet where I want to put my subs, I was thinking of building some kind of wall in where the backseat is but then my car would be a 2 seater, and I'm not sure I want to do this, I could do a blow through but then that is going to be a lot of cutting and other things involved that I really don't want to do. So its like I'm stuck with getting only so much BASS and compression no matter what I do, I feel I'm going to lose no matter what I do with this car.
Being a convertible its so hard to get any boom from the trunk at least I would think so, haven't tried it yet. There is a thick piece of metal between most of the cabin and the trunk, but some boom would come from where the convertible top folds into its well about 10 inches of air could move between cabin and trunk actually. That is only when the top is up though.
Anyways to my surprise I hooked up my two BRZ12D4s Brutus 12s Subs up and threw them in the backseat just to get a listen and they don't sound bad at all the amp isn't even really hitting them with as much as I could give em. I set my gain settings off of the subs at 1200 watts that is what the Brutus subs are rated and no distortion at all, but I have heard they can take much more.
I was pleasantly surprised on how they sounded and the excursion, they was jumping out of the box. I'm not sure if I should set the gain from the sub watts or the amp watts, I was told the sub watts just to be safe? So I set my gain at 34 if I went with amp watts I could have went up to around 40 with the multimeter, this was with an Audiopipe APSM1500, I have 2 of the amps and I can strap later when I get better electrical. Anyways my car wasn't holding much pressure, that's the biggest draw back of my car is getting a system to pound right, but it is really nice in the summer to drop the top and it rides smooth. Its a first gen 2000 JXI Sebring with a Mitsubishi Motor in it.

Re: Need help choosing Alpine Type-R, SA-12, RF-P3, or other.
why not go for a single larger sub that can take as much power as a pair of type r's daily and possibly save some money?
what do you have for electrical besides the 1/0 to back those amps up? if its all stock you should spend the money on batteries and keep rocking the hifonics until you have more funds available those amps will draw alot of power

I would highly recommend gettin the SA12's over the Type R's. I had a friend import an SA into Oz and it looks and feels to be a higher quality sub than my old Alpines. Better excursion on the SA and will take more power than the R's.

Personally I would go with the sundown sa's I run them right now and I am very happy with them however you may also look into some ssa subs that fit your budget they seem to be gaining popularity on this forum. As to wire I believe that Audio Technix and KNU the cheapest wire per foot but I've never compared it to welding cable.

Need help choosing Alpine Type-R, SA-12, RF-P3, or other.
I'm looking for some new subs I prefer 12s. I could fit 15s but I think 12s would be more practical. My Budget is $450 I need advise from people who have been into this for awhile. I really like the SA-12s and the Alpine Type-Rs from what I have saw on YouTube and heard on the forums. You guys know better than me I just started getting into car audio, look at some of the mistakes I already made below on my system. So I'm here so I don't repeat the same mistakes again.
So is there something else other than the SA-12, Type-R 5th Gen, Or Punch 3s that I should go with, if so what do you think I should go with, and where is the best place to buy them. Hopefully I get a lot of replies, I want to get the best I can for my money. I think the lowest I have saw the SA-12 is around $225 each and the Type-R around $170 each. What else would be better if anything and where can I get it at the best price.
I also need to know where I can find the best deals on RCA cables, Misc cables, and 0 gauge Wire, I would even use welding cable but cant seem to find it any cheaper than 0 gauge Monster OFC.
