Phoenix is still in the green - This is good
Default Re: top 5 SPL subs??

A single DD 9917z pulled a 177.8 in db drag finals with two DD Z2 amps. I say that's a pretty darn good SPL sub right there.

A single fully loaded 18 inch BTL pulled a 170.8.

So DD 9917z and BTL are on my list as great SPL subs.

I actually think that there IS a top of the world when it comes to SPL subs at the moment:
Digital Designs 99z

I'd also throw in the Atomic APXX and the DD 9500/9900 series into that mix.
Truth be known, there are ALOT of great subs out there for SPL.....

I think if there was a box made and I hopped into it and let my ass chill in the baffle, I could score quite well. + 1 for me!

are we talking about single or multiple sub setups? if multiple then i'd have to say pioneer are the best so far. they hold the world record. and until someone beats Scott Owens and his pioneers i'll think they're the best out as of right now.

so to answer that question, yes i do.

you also have to consider the type of enclosures he is using, plus all of the experience he has. they might not be the best, but he sure as hell found a way to make them wang.

just because a certain competitior places well at finals, does not mean that the subs they used are the best at anything.

alans score was amazing. it was also an extreme car, and an extremely effecient box design.

he could have done that score with at least 3 or 4 different brand of subs.

scotts truck is the loudest in the world. does that mean those subs are the best... no. if they were then everyone else would be using them too.

scott is sponsored by pioneer. he has to run the pioneer subs. its also, again, an extreme vehicle, with an efficient design, and hundreds of amps and batteries.

if you take ANY of the top 4 people in every class at dbdrag finals, and have them get different subs, but keep the vehicle, amps, batteries, etc.. everything abotu thier vehicle stays the same, simply change out subs, i guarantee you that 3/4 of them will do the same number OR BETTER.

at the top 4 level, its about your batteries, amps, subs, and install. not to mention how well you have your vehicle setup, and how well you know your vehicle.

i got 4th at finals this year. i did the 3rd highest score in my class.

does that mean my mt's are only the third highest ranked sub in street max? nope. because i also had FAR LESS battery power than the people who beat me, and i had HALF the ampplifier power that those above me had.

its not all aout just the sub.

now, back to the original question...

which is the top spl sub???? there ISNT ONE.

but.. .there are several that have a proven track record for performing well, and consistantly being in the top 4 at finals.

in no particular order

RE MT's
T3's
Cactus Sounds
Fi
American Bass
Atomic
DD
Pioneer
Shocker
RF

there are others i'm sure, but they are not as widely used as the subs above, unless i forgot a major one
