Default q's about hids

whats the skinny on running hid's and daytime running lights?
do they get hot,if so how hot, enough to discolor or disfigure the plastic lens and bezel?..and if there is an issue with daytime running lights are the kits made to be controlled from factory settings on the vehicle???
where can i get a kit thats reliable for a 07 gm?
what is the whitest "K"

they do not get that hot, but it is NOT recommended as the low(er) voltage can over time, ruin the ballests (from what the kits ive played with have told me)

dont bother with pnp ebay garbage. the ballasts are cheap chinese bull**** that will break within 6 months. the only proper way to do an hid retrofit is to buy lenses, ballasts, bulbs, trim rings, etc all seperate. you need to mod your existing housing and install the lenses and trim rings into it. its a lot of work, and pretty expensive, but whn your finished, it will look 1000000x better than any of that pnp garbage.

also, hid's are not meant for reflector housings .. this is why the retrofit is necessary so that you have the proper lenses (resulting in correct beam pattern). that is why you see little civics running around with blue headlights, and they cant see **** and the the headlights light up the trees overhead, instead of the road.

well if you are serious and want to do it correctly, your going to have to throw your headlight housings into an oven and open them up so you can put the reflectors in. then about $600 on ballasts and bulbs. think about it before you go through with it. but if your keepin your Car for a while, and have the money, its a 100% worthwhile upgrade.

my cheap chinese bull**** has lasted me 1.5 years so far.

to the op, for your Car you can find headlights with projectors allready installed for pretty cheap. i would recommend getting a pair of those then getting the proper bulbs to match that

EDIT: after taking a second look all the ones pre made ones are pretty fugly. so i wouldnt get one of those unless you planned on blacking it out

nah, its just the design of the lens. hid bulbs emit a completely different kind of light than halogen bulbs, and therefore need a different lens.

gotcha, so when i source projectors for mine it has to be from a hid equipt vehcile. thats good to know. do you know if all factory hid's are d2s(think thats it) or do any of them share like an h4 or h7 pattern?

believe theyre all d2s .. the h4, h7, etc are all rebased bulbs.

for projectors, audi tt, acura tl, e36, are all common donor vehicles.

07 monte carlo has metal deflectors and a metal cup that sits in front of the actual bulb
