Default Car Electrical Woes

So my current electrical system consists of Stock wiring, stock alternator ( 120A Stock ) and an optima redtop under the hood.. i have a 400 watt sony amp at the moment to push my two 12's , which im upgrading very soon for my birthday is less then a month away.. but the problem is if i play my system with my Car off, in under 5 minutes, probobly three or so my low battery warning light comes on, etc... i put a DMM to the battery while the system is on, and within a 2 minute period my voltage went from 12.6 ish to 11.9, all in less then 2 minutes, and i have a optima redtop... is something wrong with this situation? With the car on the voltage hovers around 13.4-13.6 with no problems, but with the car off it shoots down in a very very short amount of time.. im wondering if my batterys not up to par? hell its only a 400 watt sony amp and only has 60 amps worth of fusing, yet it drains my electrical like no tomorrow, it drops a full volt in under 5 minutes

get a switch for your remote wire, to turn your amps off when your just sitting with your Car off but still want to listen to the radio.

A redtop isn't mean't to have alot of long term storage capacity. With that car off, it just drains very quickly. Redtops are in a way like capacitors. They are meant to discharge alot of power at once (starter battery), and if they aren't being constantly charged, they'll quickly die. That's why a yellowtop is much better for mobile audio. I've played my sytem with the car off for over 10 minutes and the car still started fine.

I believe the redtop isnt a deepcycle battery.

and besides what you are describing is due to you not having enough battery "bank" or storage. usually a battery upfront has to be small and cant take much even if it is a deepcycle.

for instance I have a stinger 44 upfront and it cant take much but put it with my MUCH larger stinger 70 and I go from 14.2 to 13.8 with a autotek mm4000.1 full blast on a stock alt. unhook the stinger 70 and say hello to 12 volts
