Default best budget battery

im looking for the best budget battery. my system is approximately 2500 watts RMS . my budget is 160 with shipping. i know for that amount of money i cannot get full power, but i have a 240 amp iraggi alt and i want a battery in the trunk so i can listen to music when the engine is off. i wont listen to it for long periods of time just 2 or 3 minutes at a time. i would really like to play at full RMS for that time but i know thats tough for $160, anybody have any suggestions?

I second the duralast. We have found them to be comparable to, and sometimes better than GR 34 Optima Yellowtops. You can get them at Autozone.

Check and see if you have a batteries plus near you, that would be enough for an odyssey pc1200, if not you can order em off the site, they are killer

if you can get deka intimidator g31 its a BIG group 31 AGM cell should be under 160. agm wont leak on you unless its damaged and wet cells are messy and require upkeep and you cant mount them on their side

Why do you say wet cells are messy???

How many people on this forum mount their batteries on their sides compared to straight up??

If you buy/build a battery try and mount it securely the battery won't be "messy"

lol wet cells leak ever wonder why some 4 year old batteries under the hood look all chewed up and have alot of rust under them? it vents toxins and acid. doesnt matter how you have them mounted but set them on their side they will leak almost instantly. also agm type cells dont corrode, and they generally charge better than wet cells (less load)...you can weigh the advantages and disadvantages yourself but there is a difference

i probably shouldnt have laughed but seriously if you mount a wet cell in the back of your Car and its a hatchback to propperly do it safely it will need to vent outside the car. way way way back in the early 90's i had 1 and 2 wet cell deep cycles in back and after 2 yrs when i sold the car i yanked the system out there was a nice rusty spot with a very toxic goo under the batteries. couldnt smell it because it was vented but i still imagine it wasnt too healthy to be around. with car audio its a good idea to do a little research. not talking about reviews but specifically what do the specs mean. not talking just one or two of them you should lump tegether everything and pick best what suits your needs and by all means budget. just because a person has 1200 bucks to get a 4000 watt amp and another 1000 for subs and a box doesnt mean "that is it". amps that big need big power and a SAFE way to put it into motion. the more you know the LESS likely you will have problems and wont waste money on the wrong things.

why not just save instead of buying a Walmart battery and half assing? batteries aren't THAT expensive...i just picked up an NSB 90FT (comparable to a Kinetik Monster) for $160 shipped. a yellow top would be more expensive than that brand new...and walmarts batts are still like 70 bucks each i think...

I was just wondering because I have seen installs in SUV's with regular wet cell batteries and no problems

Thats a BEAST of a battery for the price. More reserve than a G31 optima, although it has less cranking amps and cold cranking amps. The reserve will come in handy when playing the stereo with the car off though.
