heres the run down, i was in marietta georgia for the weekend at a Car show which was held at a car audio shop. I was speaking to one of the salesman about getting me a bigger alternator for my car. I already told him i had an oprima battery under my hood and trunk. So he goes on to say he can order the alternator, and that i can also instead of replacing the alternator, i can jus take out my second optima battery and replace it with a kinetick Power cell i believe either the 2000 or 2400 series he suggested.
has anyone done thi before instead of an alternator? Would those big power cells be as benificial as an alternator?
Also this guy says hes the record holder for the most db's with a single sub which was the top of the line treo sub. He said he hit 160 wit a single treo sub. Dont know if he was pulling my leg or what
the alternator will do more for you than the alternator will, if you are a daily driver and an occasional competitor.
if you compete alot, then the battery will do more for you.
the kinteik 2400 has a ton of reserve, and can take some serious abuse.
however, its still only 12volts.
when daily driving, your battery(ies) are only there to supplement the alternator when you drawtoo much power from it.
the alternator powers your system, not the batteries.
so, the high output alternator is MUCH more beneficial for a daily driver or for someone who competes with thier vehicle ON in the lanes.
if you compete alot, and your class requires your car to be off, then the battery will do more for you.
however, if your class allows two batteries.. then the two optimas will do more for your than the kinteik will, simply because you have one under the hood and one in the trunk.
if you replaced them both, and had only the kinteik under the hood, you wont get as much voltage to the amps, without LOTS of wire.. 6-10 runs of power and 6-10 runs of ground.. to equal what yo uget with having a battery sitting right next to the amps.
so, before making a descision, think about a number of things.
do you compete more or do you drive more?
does your class allow the car to be on in the lanes?
does your class allow multiple batteries?
