You would have to fabricate a bracket for it

Default Re: How big an electrical system?

Good lord this will be a big system.

PS you can use the resistance/foot of 0/1 to calculate how much voltage will be dropped across it with that much current flowing through it. You can also then calculate the Power being dissipated by the wire. Given how much time, you can then figure out how much heat they will be dissipating.

It's a good idea to make sure you have enough runs that they won't drop too much voltage/burn up.

I read somewhere about people doing 20+ runs of 1/0 guage so i think that is what im going to have to do. 2 or 3 runs from each alternator. If i was using 8 alternators would they all be connected by the same belt or do i run them in 2 groups of 4 alternators? I wanted to try and make sure there is not a lot of voltage drop from the system. Going purely by the fuse rating on the amps i may be using there is still a potential 4000a current draw. Depending on my sub choice i am changing the amps i am using. I may only be using 36kw rms so half the original Power i was planning on running so it is going to be big but not ridiculous.

can anyone shead any light on what is the difference between batteries for example an xs Power d3100 and a shurken bt120? Both 120ah but one double the price of the other??? Someone said it could be due to the amount of current it could dump in one go?? Thanks in advance for the help.

id say 24-28 d3100 batts and 4 alts. hopefully big alts. but if you can fit 28 batts weight wise, which is 2800 lbs of batteries minus the rest of the equipment you should be fine.

I would look at getting a multiple alt setup with lots of battary's. Like 2 per amp at least.

yeah i am definately going to do a build log, i want to get all the equipment and get to work first because its going to be a slow build. Already have the van deadened and cables ran front to back. Subs are undecided and so will have to be built after i have made my decision, so will still be a liittle while before build log is started. I do have a few plans though *wink*
