Default how many batts?

hey guys, i have a quick question. how many batteries can a 270 amp DC alt charge?. i am planning on having three or four kinetic 1800's and my stock bat up front. over all with highs and sub amp, it will be about 5000wrms. so would it put to much strain on the amp or will it be ok with 4 batts? thanks, collin.

an alt can charge a hundred batteries, but it cannot supply enough energy to keep a 100k watt amp from draining those batteries, the batteries do not cause a draw on the alt by themselves it all depends on the Power you pull from the batteries if the alt can keep them charged or not, if you run your stereo medium volume all day long that alt should keep up fine, if you only play it full tilt for a portion of the time you should be fine, if you are planning to try to play your stereo full tilt for really long extended periods of time i suggest more alt power.

So would 3 batts be overkill? or is it good to keep the power on demand? i drive around at about 80 percent full tilt when im by myself which is only maybe 50% of the time. and mabey for 15 min max, and maybe to show people maybe full tilt for 2-3 min, or untill my head starts pounding, which ever comes first haha

I have 5 batts total and mine does fine. I only have one installed at the moment because I'm waiting on my bracket for the 2nd and it does great.

Default Re: how many batts?

yeah ill prob go with four if my space provides, but i know i can fit 3. for saving money, can i do runs from the alt to the batteries in the back with Knu CCA wire? currently i have one run of OFC 1/0 and another run for negative. If i add one more run of positive do i have to run another negative? and if i have the batts wired in parralel so + to + and - to - will it help to also ground the back batts to the chassis? and my last question is has anyone used the shuriken bt8785dt? the one with 55 A/H and has both top and side posts? Thanks guys

SHURiKEN SK-BT8785DT (skbt8785dt) Dual Post Battery, Provides Top

Default Re: how many batts?

parallel is how you will always Wire your batts unless your looking for a 24v setup which would blow anything you have even if it is cca it would def. help to add the second run of + from the front to rear and ground the batts in the rear to the chassis. also make sure you have your big 3 done in quality 1/0 ofc copper wire, hopefully if you are already running a 270a alt this has already been done, if it hasnt i dont recommend starting the vehicle until it is done.

so since i have both pos and neg runs done, it does help to also ground to the chassis in the rear? and yes the big three is done in 1/0 and 4 gauge
