Default Audiopipe wire OFC or CCA?

I've been collecting pics and reviews of Wire and install gear and trying to get the guys over at DIYmobileaudio to add an Install Gear section. One of the conflicting things I keep coming across is about Audiopipe wire. I see a seller on here selling it as CCA. I see people say it's "garbage" and on the same note I hear people say it's great, OFC, and even that it's tinned copper. I've handled Audiopipe wire before, it was very finely stranded and felt like good stuff. Is it in fact CCA? Did they possibly change their wire at some point in the past?

they have both....most of it is crappy tinned Wire or cca.... their OFC wire weighs 4 times as much as the rest they have.

This is weird, how do you tell which is which then? I can tell if I have a piece in my hand but I've never seen them label their wire differently, just "Audiopipe".

Pics would be appreciated. I'm assuming Audiopipes wire have slid along with the rest of their offerings. I've done a couple installs with Audiopipe kits, always thought they were a good buy now I'm probably going to have to start looking for a different company. I know Knu is good, but it's hard for me to keep straght which is oFC and which is CCA.

I've never looked into Audiopipe wire before, but how is the pricing?
You may even look into KnuKonceptz. Everything I've purchased from them has been top knotch.

Default Re: Audiopipe wire OFC or CCA?

Sorry for the quality, my cam sucks for up close, I may have to redo these with her D40.

Bunch of thin wires in small bundles:

Some ok flex:

And after scraping the wire with a razor, they look like a mix? Tin over some fine copper? I'll try to replace these pics with better ones. They have copper coloring on the inside and silver (alum or tin) over that, if that makes sense:

Ap has had some changes in the last couple years with their wire. Now there is a cca, cca flex, and pure copper series.

Default Re: Audiopipe wire OFC or CCA?

So here's some with my wife's cam, I dragged the razor hard enough to cut a few strands as you can see:

Same thing on the silver and I puffed it a little... see the copper color on the sides? That's where I scraped the silver off, which I guess is for looks since the jacket is clear:

Lastly, the red seems a little heavier and even hangs different as you can see. I think it's pretty good stuff for budget installs like mine:

PS... WHAT'S UP ADAM?! LOL, I'm just getting around to putting those Fusion amps in that I bought from you forever ago, still in the boxes Took them out to test and that was it.

I did... replaced all under hood, Big 10 lol and lights are brighter, etc. Plus the jackets are pretty tough even with a razor. I like it for now

Yes it was back when I was in New Mexico lol, was going to wall my Saturn but had tranny issues and they went into storage until now. Hope to have them up and running in another month when I get my 12's.

*ahem*

Back on track lol... here's the rolls I bought. They even have 100' rolls of 0-ga for like $170/ea. I rewired my under hood basically with 25' rolls, one red and one silver and still have 6-8 feet of each left. I will be buying more again if I don't use welding cable instead to make my runs under the truck for my amps.

Default Re: Audiopipe wire OFC or CCA?

The red wire is OFC. The silver wire, if it's silver on the outside and copper in the middle it might be nickel plated or silver plated copper which is even better imo. Both are good wires. I've bought a few of the Audiopipe kits. Though the wiring was a little course, it was all OFC. But the RCA's were cheaply made.

This guy has decent prices on real OFC silver plated 0 gauge. Check out his store to look around: BY THE FOOT -- 0 Gauge Blue Power Ground Wire OFC - eBay (item 290491468245 end time Jun-20-11 10:54:03 PDT)
