Default My Power supply

Remember my Radioshack 15 amp 13.8v ac/dc converter i used when i had my cvrs? I just thought about something. Technically, its not an Alternator, nor does it push off as much Power as one does... So lets say i got the Brz 1700.D I buy a Little XS Power battery. Would the power supply be so weak, that it wont really help other then to charge the battery?

15 amp wont hold up under the pull of a brz 1700.....at full tilt expect 160amps of current pull

I know that. Lol. But will it drain my battery really bad or hurt anything? Its not gonna draw that much because my 15" cant even take that much. If i put that much Power to it, the microwaves will burn the tensel leads like FI subs. Lol.

the amp itself will shut off at 10v....i wouldnt do that for any long period of time.....that amp is regulated so seeing 12v or lower will put stress on that amp

Default Re: My Power supply

if you let the battery charge up for a long time, which it will as long as there is dv current flowing through it, you shouldnt have an issue running that amp on low power. try to pull a lot of Power from it and youll have some issues.

I wish i could pull alolt of power, but the most ill be able to get is 750ish? @ 2ohms 1000 watts, but that sub cant take no were near that much. I shouldnt have to worry about the voltage dropping anywere near 10 volts. But Ill be watching my voltage anyways. But basicly, the converter isnt gonna help with any of power at all while playing music?

15 amps will help a little bit, but odds are youll be pulling more than 15 amps, which will need to be supplied somewhere, and thats when the battery gets drained. if you kept the power under a 15 amp draw, the battery will remain more or less charged. that means nothing over 180 watts, assuming 100% efficiency, 125 watts assuming roughly 70% class d efficiency.good luck keeping it below that

But Im not gonna be pulling 1700 watts!!! No were near it. I Dont have anything that could take that much power. Maybe my T.V can take that much to power it. Lol. I think the MOST ill be pulling ever is 75 amps MAXX......

Still Wouldnt help while playing?

I just don't understand what you're trying to do...

But no, the power supply really won't do much if you plan on pushing that amplifier at anything over a couple hundred watts. I mean, you could run it, but why? Why not just buy a plate amplifier?

I'm pretty sure he's trying buy it in anticipation of having a car. Then he doesn't have to double purchase. In summary, 15 amps will be useful, but once the current draw exceeds 15 amps, your battery will get depleted. Yes, it will work, but its not going to very effective.

Yes thats the reason im doing this. I would by another stronger converter, but i cant afford that much. The best thing i can afford that would push maybe 100+ amps is a computer psu. But my voltage will be in the 12v range, an may drop to 11.3v range with a battery.

It could, but I doubt they are made to handle quick bursts of current. I vote for just saving money for a car. You'll appreciate it when it comes that time. If you must buy something, you might as well get the batt and just drop in the car when you get one.

Show me a single rail psu that puts out 100 amps lol. If I were you I would buy a battery charger from say walmart that puts out like 80 amps on start mode. A good one should be able to run constant on start mode for a while. Or you could grab a quick charge plus float mode charger. Either way keep the reciept. I would also grab a stinger volt meter just so you know how low your voltage is getting. too low and then give your system a break to recharge.

But yes I wouldn't waste my time with that.

Sorry its the mobile site, but would one like this one work in start mode? Because 200 amps should be enough to power it without a battery. And i wont have to worry about playing it for long amounts of time, because id have to turn it down with neighbors and all :P

No you still need a battery ... get at least a skbt20 to stop voltage spikes and any noise or static. Your amp will thank you. Does that charger have a thermal protect? And you are going to need at least real 2 gauge for wiring.

Im not sure. If im able to turn the mobile feature off on my phone, ill look an see. All i know is it has fans :P Im trying too find a picture of its guts to see if I can mod some 0 gauge on it.

I might have to use 2 gauge just because the amp only takes 2 gauge.
