Default voltage

Ok so I've been playing with my voltage for a few weeks now and Meca is Sunday so I gotta get it done! I sit at 12.9-12.8 at idle and about 1500 rpms almost 14v. So what I'm stuck on is why am I only at 12.9 at idle? Heres my set up, 2 runs + from front battery to each (2) rear batteries, big 3, 1 run to connect each rear battery, one run + and - to amp, one battery grounded threw floor to frame the other to seat bolt. I have a 200amp alternator up front to charge all this. So any suggestion to how to get my voltage up at idle? All Wire is ofc 1/0. I also have a pair of dual + and - connectors on the way for my amp.

you either have a blown diode/s or your regulator is not working properlly.

or maybe because his alt was rebuild it now has a lower idle output?

An alternator is supposed to charge at the same voltage no matter what rpm. If it doesn't something is wrong.

Correct but I guess what he didn't mention was if his voltage is while he is beating on his system.
Either way I read here on RoE that most of the time when you have an alt rebuild it will have a lower output at idle.
So in the case he is playing some music and he is at idle it could explain the lower voltage.

I was told my truck has a built in regulator I haven't seen. Is there any way to get tested? My batteries are fairly new 2 of them about a year and one just purchased about a month ago.

I should clarify. Yes at idle an alternator will have lower amperage output but voltage is a constant with a fully working alternator under no load. I am 99% positive he is meaning with his system off.

pull the alt and take it to autozone to be tested.

High volume at idle it I seen it drop to 11.8 and wile driving about 12.5 at the most. Today it didn't drop below 13 at drive.

if your system is off and you are charging at 12.8 that means you are actually probably charging below and your batts are holding voltage which puts a lot of stress on them. I would bet $20 bucks you have a blown diode or melted solder joint from heat and that is why voltage shoots up when rpms go up. The guy probably didn't solder the leads good enough.

Default Re: voltage

was this doing this after you got your alt beefed up to 200amps?
and yes if you get a high amp alternator and some times if your to big it will stop charging good at idle but i built those alts at 200amps befor and had no voltage issues at idle

take all your batterys out have them load tested if 1 is bad its going to drag them all down
have your alternator tested if a diode is bad it will draw down
if from your sig are running a 3500 and 2 good batterys you should not be in the 11's if everything is working right
