Default Dem caps

BCAP3000 P270 K04 Maxwell Technologies Inc | 1182-1021-ND | DigiKey

BCAP1200 P270 K04 Maxwell Technologies Inc | 1182-1018-ND | DigiKey

Thinking about scooping up some of either of them.

i'm a little curious. anyone know what would happen wiring a cap in series with a battery?

i feel like it would add the capacitance of the cap to the battery?

fallen? chuck?

burke?

"To achieve higher voltages, several supercapacitors are connected in series. This has disadvantages. Serial connection reduces the total capacitance, and strings of more than three capacitors require voltage balancing to prevent any cell from going into over-voltage"

that didn't really answer my question.

i'm kinda thinking there must be some kind of esr calculation? idk

You would have 2.7V available to run your amp. No adding involved. unless of course you strapped a bunch in series, but then your net capacitance plummets

so if i charged 14.4 to the cap in series with a batt i'd likely kill the cap then?

like cap on negative terminal on batt. nothing else connected, then everything connected to pos on batt and other terminal on cap.

just found the equation. its 1/((1/c1)+(1/c2)+(1/c3))

so the 6 3kF caps in series would net me 500 farads.

also.. if the batt had 10 farads of capcitance the 3k capcitor would remove about .3f from it, lol.

that deems that worthless.

actually, I take back what I said, I was thinking something differnt. I'm fairly certain you would just be looking at a 2.7V drop, so youd have 12.7 available at the amp

thats fine and dandy, and most likely accurate, but they would need to be wired in parallel to work the way you want them to

Caps have a super low esr. I've seen some fictitious numbers but w/e. They discharge almost instantly. You charge caps prior to wring into your batteries or might weld your Wire lol. Caps will float fine with your batteries as long as you don't over charge them. 6 2.5's in series is like 460f? So it's some juice lol. So you get more banks built up.

lulz yea i got i'll hit em with my 15a Power supply before i hook dem up.

i'm curious how many d1400's it would take to get to cap level for burp discharge.

Default Re: Dem caps

I snagged 12 off of ebay for 222$. So should be getting +900 farads of power in the back. if 6 (2600 F 2.5 volt caps) can start a vehicle about 3 times before it has trouble starting a car, i believe it should do very well for some applications. A youtuber who built battery banks with them says he can run his stock HU for half an hour and still start the vehicle without a hitch..(If i figure anything out with the caps when i get them and have time, ill try to post. I will only be able to test them out after the 17th of May.)

Default Re: Dem caps

there is another website is kind of the same thread but more activity: Capacitors are cool - Page 16.
Anyway I got 2 banks of 6 capacitors in parallel with each other to help with cell balancing and the "double bank" is in series with the 2 batteries I have up front. Charging took less than an hour with 3 car light bulbs acting as resistors to get the bank up to 7 volts, and from there I just hooked it up to the battery. With some very small sparking it charged up to 14 volts in a minute. I haven't tested the capacity or amount of power these can put out, I just wanna get them installed.
(while charging them once or twice a wire would just brush two paths on the bank and scare the **** out of me, nothing to serious, just a 1/2 second spark. Careful with what touches the contacts and where.

So I posted something similar before. You pointed out that the ESR was lower in a normal yellow top.
