Default Re: 2 alts vs 1 big one

i would personally do 1 big one just cause its less wiring needed. as far as performance it would be the same 2 would more than likly be a lil bit harder to turn but then again you would most likly not even notice that.

the mechman 350's don't idle well, unless they've changed them recently. if you can do the duals i would

if you're looking at the 6-phase 370a unit then that would probably be a better option. the conventional(non 6phase) 350a unit is the one that didn't idle well. 6-phases are monsters though.

I would think dual alts would give more amps at idle, most high amp alts are like built Supras, nothing at idol but a sh*t ton well above.

of course 2 alts would be better than one.

i have no clue if you can fit a 2nd alt or not, that's up to whoever is fabbing the bracket for it.

6-phase alts have KILLER idle output, its not the high rpm monster conventional alts people are used too.

normal 270a 6-phase alts will do 220A+ at idle. in the vid below the alt is still doing 100a+ at 250 rpm.

And what does 3 1/0 gauge look like? I'd just think running 1 is easier than 3. And I guess in your case 2 vs 6.

At 25ft it'd be more that 500amp each but it never hurts to have more. The alts aren't always putting out their max too

xs power is worth it imo.

however i'd put the smaller batt under the hood and the bigger batt in the rear.

what did you decide on for wire?

oh okay, didn't realize you were doin multiples in the back.

here's my general rule of thumb for wire requirements front to back runs based on 20 ft runs. amperage is the amount of alt power you have.

100a ofc 1/0 75a cca 1/0
125a ofc 2/0 100a cca 2/0
160a ofc 3/0
200a ofc 4/0

that's for 20ft runs. if you're shorter you can stretch it a bit. This is simply to keep voltage drop caused by wire at full load below .5v. If you push 1/0 ofc up to 350a some manufactures rate at you'll see a 1.25+v drop just from wire.
