Default New amp wiring kit help

Hey All,

I am going to upgrade my wiring kit.

I found a Rockford Fosgate RFK4X 4g kit on Ebay for $72 shipped, for the price would you say this is the best kit I could get?

If not, can you guys suggest a better 4g kit?

Thanks.

IMHO... your paying to much for a amp kit. Nothing wrong with that kit, It will work great... For that price your able to get some nice 1/0 kits. Your paying for the name

KnuKonceptz KCA 4 Gauge True 4 Gauge Amp Kit Installation Wiring Kit | eBay

That for one is an example of one.

Hey Beckerson,

So that Wire is the real deal? I noticed on the sellers inventory there were the same wires but in different price ranges, whats the deal with that?

Would you say this wire kit would work just fine powering a Hifonics Brutus 1200w?

Check the details as if I remember correctly Knu allows the option for OFC or CCA. So the variance in price can be the result of that. Also they give options for 8,4 and 0 gauge kits.

That link provided was an example. As far as what I would say is the best, well I can't comment on that. Just don't have the experience with them... I just bought the wire, fuse holder, fuse, Speaker wire, RCA's, ring terminals, etc... IIRC I paid right around 135 or so for all my stuff but that included wiring for the amp(s) and big 3

IMHO I would go overboard on the wire as you won't have to change things up later on. So I would look at 0 gauge kits (at least for your main Power run to the rear). But depends on your budget for this. I'm more then willing to price things out for you if you want. I'm sure I even have a few items I can sell to you for cheap as well. I might have an extra ANL fuse holder, I have a ton of fuses (both ANL/Mini thanks to the DIYMA sell out), a lot of 1/0 power wire (iirc 30 red/30 black) and 17' 6 channel RCA's... If your interested I could use the extra money and can give you a really good deal

Whats the difference between OFC and CCA?

I'm not looking to go over the top with my system so 4g wire will suffice.

Will that wire in the link you sent handle a 1000w MAX amp like Hifonics?

CCA can carry about 2/3 the current that OFC will. Might as well get 0/1 gauge, your amp will thank you now and you'll thank yourself later

CCA means copper clad aluminum...and OFC means oxygen free copper.....whats more conductive?...copper or aluminum.....here is a hint on a 20 foot run of CCA expect to see a 25% reduction in voltage and amperage just from the wire

Thanks all.

In my case can you guys suggest an amp kit that'll go perfect with a 1200w Hifonics amp? IDC if it's 4g or 0g, as long as it is cheap and gets the job done.

I would go with at least 0 gauge OFC like other members stated, but if you're strapped for cash (but still want quality of course), then get this one: 4 Gauge OFC Amplifier Amp Installation Wiring Kit

It's only 4 gauge, which means you'll have to upgrade later if you get a bigger amp, but it's still OFC and should work for your BRZ just fine (It does for mine!)

Here's the thing about the CCA/OFC debate. Generally for low power applications (lower then 2K or so) you will be perfectly fine going with CCA over OFC. On paper CCA is less efficient per say due to its Aluminum component. But real world figures do tend to be much different then what the paper shows.

The biggest issue I have found during research is with High power setups where people chase db points.

So with this said... 1/0 CCA or OFC for my suggestion. Generally I wouldn't look at 4 gauge unless its a very short run. 2 gauge would be my minimum

i second staying away from 4 gauge, with 1200w 4 gauge is almost at it's max draw for current.
it's worth it to save up for a bit heavier gauge. shouldn't skimp on the electrical

Hi,

This isn't for DB drag or competitions, this is for my daily driver to and from work.

About an hour of non-stop bumping.

By 1200w I did not mean RMS, I was referring to those Hifonics Brutus amps that have 1200w MAX.

Take the RMS of the amp and divide it by 12. That's the amperage draw with approximate voltage at the amp, match that up on the chart and go one gauge bigger
