tried to set gain with dmm..not working

I have the same problem. My DMM will not work for setting my subs. It will not get a voltage read at all, no matter what. But I can read the voltage on everything else I touch. Can someone explain that. It was on AC also. I'm thinking it was the dmm machine cause I used a friends and it was kind of acting funny when it was picked up. (numbers increasing and decreasing just from movement) Just wondering if it was the machine or am I doin something wrong.

I have a mofo 12'' which gets 1200 rms

a bx1600D @ 1 ohm which does a supposed 1600

my voltage drops are around 12.4

I calculated it on a Amplifier Output Voltage Calculator but I did it @ 1400 just to be safe. I got 37.4 volts...but yea...it wont even increase from 0, but it increasing when i touch the ground and Power Wire to test the voltage.

make sure its on ac voltage, the ~ one. if theres still nothing, then get another meter. u r putting them on the Speaker terminals and not the power ones, right?

yea i am using the speaker terminals...but i think i'm just gona make a trip to radioshack this morning and get my own dmm..my friends was kinda old so i'm hoping his just wasn't working.

I am suprised your first response was not "You can't/shouldnt try to check your voltage with a DMM" .

yea i was..i figured out it was the dmm that was broke. just used my new one and it works perfectly...riding wit a clean signal now

That must be whats wrong with my DMM. It will work on everything except my speaker wires..
