audioque 4x90 problem

ok i have the old AQ4X90 the thing is it still works but seems to clip easily and puts out little power. i hooked up my dmm and all i could get was

amps output - .5
volts output - 6.5
volts input - 12.4

that is 32 watts bridged at 4 ohm Speaker was hooked up. with speaker disconnected i can not get past that amount of volts either. what the heck is going on here i have never seen smoke come out of it but has gotten a little warm not hot. so i can not figure this out.

If i am understanding your measurements, either your test equipment has a wide degree of uncertainty or something is way off in that amp.

Let's analyze-

Volts at amp- 12.4v
This needs to be inspected for one. For your voltage to be that low on just that load makes me wonder if you have electrical system failure pending...

Volts out- 6.5v
Amps out- 5a

This is physically impossible on a 4ohm speaker.
The theoretical impedance measured is 1.3ohms

This makes me believe the accuracy of the tools used are in question based on frequency used and % of uncertainty at low values.

First, i would fix your electrical system.

Second, i would leave all speakers disconnected and measure voltage out ONLY.
Make sure you are using AC for all outputted measurements.

Turn head unit up high.
Play a 0db test tone in the play range of the amp where the x-overs do not interfere.
Start by continuously turning the gain up and up and up even to max position looking for the minimum AC volt out to be ~20v.
You need to be measuring this PER channel.

If any or all channels do not meet or exceed that value, i would look at swapping rca cables to attempt to fix the problem or swap those rca cables to your sub amp and see if your sub amp exhibits the same scenario.

here is the thing it is on a power supply because i am further inspecting this amp. the voltage does not go any higher than stated even with the Speaker disconnected. i hooked my dmm up in bridge so i was trying to get most out of it and i also tested the voltage on one channel. did not change but no matter how high i turn the gain it will not go past like 8 volts. if i have it turned up with the speaker hooked up it distorts very fast have swapped rca's and source. the only reason i hooked the speaker up and tested voltage is because i wanted to see the voltage at which i could hear it distort just for my pleasure. the amp does not get hot or warm when beating on it i even messed with the crossover nothing helped. i got more voltage out of my little poweracoustik 4 channel that prolly dosent do 400 watts. so i am thing something went bad an now the amp needs repaired.

Has it been opened and checked for any burnt components?

yea i have opened it and can see no burnt parts. ill have to take it to a repair shop around here and have it fixed.

I have an AQ 90x4 as well. It took a dump on me so I sent it back for warranty work. Then it took a dump on me again. So I gave up on it. I got an mb quarts onx125x4. Problem solved!

yea i was just planning on using it for a little or selling it but what i really want is a Stetsom 2k for my mids. contacted Stetsom they said $504 for it so that is not bad for 3300 watts rms and dang thing is only like 12"X 12"

I would not recommend Stetsom.
I can give you multiple references from Repair Centers that refuse to touch them. I know the repair center that does repair them because it's their job but the truth is their technology is way behind today's standards.
I can even tell you a story given to us by someone who actually visited Brazil for business relations and watched how Stetsom performed and how they act as a business is very poor.

I "could" post some very hurtful information about them but i choose not to publicly or even privately..
Point being, until they catch up with technology, they are not a valuable purchase.
Trying to warn you before you make a mistake.

On another note, are you just wanting to run 1 amp for your mids?

If you are, you will ruin your staging.
