Hi,
I own an USA6000 with SAT still active (love this amp). I have used it with 2 GZNW15 for some years and now changing to JL 13W7. I think this forum would be the right place for this question because here in Germany this is not a very common amp.
My current battery bank consists of 6 Power Cell 1100L and 1 Optima Red Top in the trunk and the ordinary starter battery in the front and the common alternator (140A specified).
I want to use one or two JL audio 13W7 (sealed) and I am a bit affraid of the amp pops due to bad power supply or too low impedance. This system is not (yet) intended for SPL competions but for fun and some burps. Do you have any suggestions?
Is it save to give this amp 1.5Ohms bridged with this power supply? When using one woofer, I would give it 3Ohms bridged, I think this would be more than enough regarding output power to this woofer. But as I know myself, I better should install two woofers.
Would be glad to get some hints.
well from what i find on that amp....its a HUGE ab class amp....that being said you would most likely be better off getting a modern D class amp....in order to run the usa 6000 below rated ohm loads you will have to internally modify the amp and disable the SAT....they didnt make many of the usa 6000...so i would wrap it up and keep a piece of car audio history because they never made a larger AB class amp....and get you a new generation d class amp it will get you better effiency and be alot smaller....we can point you i n the right direction for amps....

Hi, thank you for your advise.
Well, I think at the moment I want to keep this nice amp so maybe it's better to run just one JL to keep the amp alive. Makes me a bit sad not to use that amp. It's some years ago I compared that amp to a class D one.. Isn't it still true that class D sounds a bit worse than AB ones? The USA6000 has a nice damping factor of 2300 as far as I know.
But maybe I really need to change my mind regarding an amp for my setup. So you think an USA6000 is more suitable to put in a showcase than using it in a car nowadays?
\\EDIT: Well, searched the whole afternoon for alternatives and after that I would love to keep the USA6000.
Maybe I need to measure the impedance of the 13W7 in a sealed enclosure. The nominal DC impedance is 2x 1.2Ohms, maybe the effective impedance in the listening range of 20...80Hz might be above 2x2Ohms to stay in the specified amp range. Or is this too risky?
Does anyone know if the SAT measures impedance or output current? I guess itīs the current which makes it shut down when exceeding the limit? If this suggestion is right, it is no overload to deliver 2kW to each woofer @1.2Ohms bridged, right? Am I wrong?
To tell you the truth I wouldn't mod or try to bypass or run that amp into the ground in anyway....them amps are just to rare to play with and risk blowing up....and modern d class amps can sound just as good as a ab class amp and be a bunch more efficient and take punishment. ...do some searing in your area and see what you can get your hands on for a d class
