vbulletin has a ranking system which allows users to rank each other. however, as mentioned in this thread, rather than being used for ranking how well someone contributes, it may likely be used to rank who we like and dislike. however, it may be something worth trying so we can try to get an idea of who contributes constructively.

thanks for the suggestion! i will look into this as it may be very helpful. my only concern is task to read over each thread/post that needs approval. this will definitely call for more mods or maybe a specific mod designated for this task only.

I agree people shouldn't be seen, even if they leave positive feedback, cuz then people would openly admit to negative feedback, probably ensuing in the opposite effect of this.

Thoughts on a section you have to qualify for, i know there is a place only the mods can see, but why not have an elite members area, where most of us know each other. Not sure on the thoughts about that, just an idea.

this is good idea as well, however i would prefer to impliment some sort of post cap limit for newbies and members who excessively post non constructive posts/threads. i would like every member to be able to read topics posted throughout the forum. however, i'm not shooting down your idea completely.

I'm not sure how to specify who would be allowed & who wouldn't. In a way it could be an exclusive club based off of soley mod judgement or maybe just your judgement shon. Not sure really what it would require to get in, but I know that there are times when I want to ask a question to just a certain group of people, but when you state that, it is taken as offensive & then your thread is not percieved well, I also understand the reason for pm's, but it seems the main point of this is to take away useless posts/information & there seems to be more frustration w/ uselss posts than with the actual people themselves.

that's main problem. i believe a daily post cap limit will be the best solution to the problem. for example, if i can apply a limit of 5-10 posts per day to problematic members, that member will have to be very selective to what he wants to post.

while some may disagree, it's a step i'm willing to take to control forum content. it's not set deal, but i do believe it's a fairly good method to limit certain members from excessive posting. remember...this may only be applied to members who post non constructive posts/threads excessively. a good majority of the forum will not have to worry about this restriction.

5-10 i think is overkill. that can be just one thread. what if hes selling something? i personally think if it comes down to that, i wont be on roe for much longer.

I think it should be a group vote on who gets this restriction put against them.

as i have mentioned, this is not set in stone. it's an idea that i threw out with a number. if it will ease everyone, i will change the figure to "x" number of posts. also, i will mention this again, the majority of the forum will not have to worry as it will only apply to members who are constantly posting non constructive posts/threads. i'm not going to point fingers, but you probably know who you are.

i plan to activate the member rating system. members who have a low rating will be considered to have a daily post limit. the final decision will be discussed between the moderators.

sounds good actually. as long as the ratings cant be pushed out dramatically by a single person.

albeit i dont think the limit on posts will actually do much good as in terms of stopping useless posting, i think useless threads should be deleted to begin with before they get out of hand.

iirc, each member can rate a member only once.

as for limiting posts, it's different approach to the blatant delete/lock of threads. for one, mods and myself have received complaints for being "nazi mods" by going with the delete/lock route.

I just wanted to say, in response to this statement; I have felt that the "nazi" style HAS been used a bit too much. I have had a few of my posts that weren't off topic, disrespectful in any way or any other wrongful doing deleted. It just kind of upsets me that when I post something of use that it could possibly be deleted like I never even attempted to help someone out. Just my 2 cents though.

i know where and what you are referring to. however, you have to look at the overall aspect of why a deletion/lock was initiated; in general, the entire thread.

anyhow, please try not to stray away from this topic. i would like too keep this thread on track to help receive feedback on ideas posted and allow people to post other ideas.

well i mean, a completely wasteful thread, that obviously should not be there. should just be rid of.

getting "out of hand" in a thread, warning first, then whatever. thats my opinion of that one.

but i will agree some instances of helping out are interpreted incorrectly and deleted.

I would think 5-10 posts wouldn't be too extreme, it would really make that member realize they can't just post crap. If they are selling something, they hindered themself by posting in their manner.

I assume a member would be considered new (hate the "noob" term) by there join date correct. Just to clarify.

The post deleting time was a slap in face type thing. The forum was crazy & there was a lot of enforcing done, I don't think the majority of deleted posts that were posted would be deleted now, the mods were making a point & i think it helped. I sure as heck was ticked @ one point, but i now notice a difference in the forum & like it.

i was surprised to see the "Roe downhill" post the other day, I felt the forum was on the uprise again, large in part to the new mods coming in & cleaning things up.

I think things are definitely getting better & with some of the new ideas posted here, ROE is going to be better than ever or if you prefer, back to it's old shape.
