still looks like it hits pretty well. 6db is a major null though...sure that is noticeable

That it does. And it is noticable, yeah. I wouldn't say it sounds bad. I kinda prefer it to the bloated low end most ported setups have. It sounds a lot more like my home theater. Minus the extension down to 20HZ lol. But for music that extension isn't totally needed.

So anyhow, I'd say the box is a success. But I wouldn't say it's necessarily better than a regular ported box.

Also I'm going to play with the subsonic a bit. I have it turned up pretty high to protect the subs from over excursion. It might actually be cutting into my low end. Thinking about it, I just set it by ear. It could be set to 35Hz for all I know.

I think I'm going to Build a different box. This one takes up way too much space.
This weekend has made that painfully obvious.

Yayyy, now I know ill be louder

Edit. Can you spend a tad of effort on flattening the response? I'm thinking very hard about removing seats and doing a horn for the trio

Well I got a new job a couple weeks ago, so I haven't had much time for audio.

Anyways I'm giving up on repairing my bxi2006. There is something going on that I can't measure. I replaced the output FETs and the PSU FETs, checked for shorts everywhere I could think. It still ends up smoking the PSU. So now I think there's an issue with the PWM board that drives the PSU FETs. Something is causing them to switch on and stay on. At this point though, I don't want to put any more money into it. A hundred bucks of FETs is enough for me.

So I'll just be using a bxi1606 from now on. A little less Power than I wanted, but oh well. (the amp is also noisy, and in pretty rough shape so it may get replaced soon anyways)

I've worked out a new box design, similar to my last tapped horn but lower profile. It's a little less efficient, and I've increased the low end extension on it a bit. I'm probably going to use plywood to make is as light as possible. Current box is really slowing my Car down.

I'm also tempted to do a 180, and put one of my 15s in my spare tire well and run is sealed lol. That would give me a lot of trunk space back.

Hmmmm

Edit. Can you spend a tad of effort on flattening the response? I'm thinking very hard about removing seats and doing a horn for the trio

I just went and sealed the front panel up with some foam tape. There were some leaks before. Doesn't sound like it made a difference. (no more leaks, but from the drivers seat it sounds the same lol)

Anyways I could try using fiberglass to line the throat of the horn. But right now, I don't really want to go through the effort.

I think I'm going to make the box smaller, so I don't want to put too much effort into this box

Interestingly enough, doing it with 3 speakers across should flatten it out a bit. If you think of it, from the inner most (left most in the pic below) the L23 will be roughly 18" shorter than the L23 of the outtermost. Having 3 would exagerate the effect, and I'm fairly certain it would cause the dip to be filled in. But I could be wrong. With hornrest it justs sums the areas of the 2 drivers to make one big (circular) driver, whereas with the 2 side by side their width is much more than their height. Hopefully it makes sense.

Well this weekend I got my DEH-80PRS installed.
I also got my little rockford fosgate PBR300X4 installed.
I love that it's rated at 4 ohms, and not 2 ohms 75Wpc at 4 ohms is just gravy. I put it where the stock infinity amp was. I recycled the stock wiring for now. I'll probably upgrade that later. I just didn't want to tear anymore of the car apart o.O

Some wicked carnage lol.

Argh a DD M4A BNIB is on sale for $1300 locally. Must resist urge to pick it up.
I would run it at 4 ohms lol. Then I can just keep adding more subs and never need to buy a new amp bwahaha.

(Seriously considering shipping and brokerage, that's not a bad price even if I'm using 1/4 of it's potential)

The T/S params of these subs does not tend well towards transmission lines.

But I though I'd try it out, since I didn't think about doing tappered quater wave pipe. As far as a tapped tapered quater wave pipe, that's going to take a lot of tweaking to get right I'd imagine.

Now I did a quick sim S1=400cm2 (roughly the combined SD of the subs). S2=100cm2, so a 1:4 taper. 160cm long to put the peak right around 38Hz
Ends up taking up half the volume of my current TH. So that's a huge plus.

Now for the down side:

grey is the tqwp black it the th.
I lose pretty much 6dB of output across the board. That's a lot.
It's a smoother response that's for sure. I'm assuming the tapped tqwp would have similar twin peaks, and that it would mirror the original but 3dB down everywhere. Anyways that's too much loss for a smaller box.
Cone excursion isn't improved either, but it isn't really any worse:

The thing to take back from this is the tqwp causes a pretty big impedance missmatch between the air and rear of the speaker. Which is the opposite of what we want to do for SPL. We want a good match so that we can transfer as much power as possible.

Where tqwp shine is for SQ applications where you want to minimize the rear wave (preferably eliminate it) and minimize reflections. This is more important for full range speakers, not subwoofers.

At least that's my take on it
