Hmm well last year I came back from my last round of deployments, my 85 Z had been left at my fathers house, and after sitting for about 2 years under an oak tree in a yard that tends to flood a bit in the rainy season (Florida)... well some of the window and door seals had failed and quite a bit of rust had Build up, between these things I decided to write her off, and use her for parts.. so I bought an 87 and more or less re-starting from stock am building a new sound system...
New equipment, and design.
Custom fibreglass boxes for rear and subs.
New rear deck with built in mounting for mid/hi amps, eq's, and fuse/distro blo ks.
New wireing, amps, HU, and speakers.
HU- clarion CZ702
Sub amp - Hifonics x14 series 1500w
Bass/midbass driver - Silver flute 8" wool cone 4ohm model (custom box behind seats)
Midbass drivers - Silver flute 6.5" wool cone 4 ohm model (front doors & rear pillar)
Midrange driver(rear only) - 2" soft dome by Hivi
Tweeters (front)- Pioneer soft domes
Tweeters (rear) - 2 sets of dayton AMT's
Subs- 2x sundown SA-8v2's and 2x PSI Hp 8's in separate passive radiator boxes
Old equip on hand that I plan to use either temp or permanently:
2x 30 band eq's (boards bought as surplus years ago)
Power acoustik ov-520 amp 2ch will put out a clean 100w rms per ch. Old from 2001- I plan to replace eeventually
Power acoustik rep1400 amp 4ch really only good for about 65w rms a ch- will replace soon...
I have completed the right rear box, and put in the front tweeters, the front left midbass, and have 1/2 of the left rear box done.
I decided on knukoncepts Wire an rca cables, 4ga for main Power and ground 6 and 8ga marine wire for amps (4 to the sub amp) 16 ga for mid/highs, 10ga for subs- all copper not the cca stuff.
Right now I have a 90A alt, the biggest off the shelf avalable... I will be putting a custom made 135A in later ( 90's maxima frame, the biggest that will fit without completely custom brackets and mods. (Turbo car, no room for two like an N/A car.) When I get the new alt I'll see about a better battery, I can get optima batts at a real discount (think 1/2 price), I used to like using the marine dual purpose battery, I have room for a secondary in the spare tire well and I'll consider that eventually...
I am using both the sundowns and the psi subs since neither did exactly what I wanted the sundowns are physically built good although even after over 50 hours at 400 watt rms they don't really come all that close to their listed t/s perimeters, especially for Fs, they work quite well for the top end of the sub bass range, but are a bit eratic for the bottom of the range with some peaks and dips throughout the bottom end... it didnt help that one of mine had to be returned for a problem after less than 15hours of runtime. The PSI's are the opposite of the sundown In responce, very good at the bottom end but rolloff quickly in the topend of the range... they have a very high inductance 6mH in series config. And are really quite close to the listed t/s perimeters from their site...
So I plan on running both sets to get the response curve and range I want. They will be in separate boxes, but running on the same amp. I did a quick set of test boxes for the setup and tested it in car, that setup gave me very nearly the responce I want with no sound shapeing applied, there was peaks centered at 58hz and 31hz that I'll knock down with the eq. But except for those peaks I had a reasonably smooth curve from 22hz thru 120hz, with my final crossover likely to be for an Fx of -6db @ 100hz 18db/octive slope...
I guess I should note that I prefer to tune my personal sound systems to roughly follow the flessure- munson (sp?) Equal loudness curves, specifically the rising loudness curve as you go lower in bass, the strong dip around 4.5khz, and the rising response above 8khz.
By the way you are going to have a great SQ system. But I am a ground pounder kinna guy myself so as long as I am loud and sound good I am happy. I am not nearly as in to the specs numbers stats exc.. as you are lol

Thanks, I hope to...
in the past I did a few systems that were more loud than accurate. So I understand what you mean When you say, Still sounds good but is designed to be loud...
I'd planed on uploading some photos of the completed rear ch and front tweeter install this morning, but it seems the fourm and my phone don't talk to each other very nicely. It'll have to wait till I get home this evening.
I got the usb mount in, took out the rusted solid cigarette lighter socket out anx used a usb /aux plug for boats, made by jensen... looks good and seems to work fine with the clarion HU.
And spent some more time. Winding inductors for the crossovers.
The front is getting a 12/24 two way crossover:
Lp: Fx of -6db @ 3250hz 12db/ octive bessel alignment
Hp: Fx of -6db @ 5000hz 24db/ octive bessel alignment
To provide a dip in responce of -6db @ about 4000hz.
Now I need to lay out the traces for the circuit board and etch them...
The rear is still up in the air, temporarily I have been using a 3 way 12/db bessel at 1.5khz, 8khz. But I still need to run an in car plot to see how each of those drivers respond where they are mounted; that might show something I don't know how to predict...
Since I'll be busy all weekend I probably won't get to that till next week sometime.
I also cut the baseplates and driver mounting plates for the sundowns sub box, next is to build a framework to stretch the felt on so I can start glassing the box.
The left rear enclosure for the 8" silver flutes is mostly complete but I still need to glass the baseplate for the rear mains and attach it to the top of the box... again next week maby...
And sometime in November I'll order a new 4ch amp to replace the power acoustik 4ch. With what is still to be determined.
