Default The Grand Prix Rebuild nkrell11

Figured I would start a new Build log since almost all my equipment is changing and I feel this will be a fairly large scale build at least by my own standards (additionally my other log is 14 pages in length or something ridiculous). My goal is to post a 150 legal from the trunk with the equipment listed below, doesn't seem far fetched but maybe I'm an idiot.

Equipment list:
HU: Clarion CZ702
Tweets: 2 Sets of 4 ohm Ft1's and crossovers
Mids: No idea yet not even sure what it will take. If I can find another set of PWX 4 ohms then 2 sets of them.
Mids & Highs Amp: audio System X165.4
Sub Amp: Flatline Audio BA2 7k
Subs: (2) Tantric HDD 12's D2
Box: Planning 4-4.5 tuned to 33HZ 8 inch port. Built by myself firing into the cabin sealed off.
Alt: Singer 270 with overdrive pulley
Batts: 1 g34, 2 g31 Juicebox Bananas, 1 g31 Juicebox Black Cherry may move the black cherry under the hood to help avoid suspension sag.
Wire: Planning on 6 runs of Electron Beam 2/0 to replace the 6 runs of Shok CCA that I have now. Waiting for the EB to go on special.
Miscellaneous: NRG and Tool Maker battery terminals, Sky High 4 & 2 channel RCA's, Deadener, Sky High Speaker Wire probably a few things I'm forgetting.

I have everything I need except for mids, wire and the materials to build a box. Laid down my bike Tuesday so I have a couple things to spend money on now. If anyone would like to suggest mids go for it kind of trying to avoid clutter as much as possible.

Well small update I guess it's time for that. I really haven't accomplished anything just acquired some more miscellaneous stuff. Ordered 150 feet of electron beam 2/0 today 75 of red and black for $307 which I felt was really reasonable. Also acquired angled dual inputs for the flatline, new rca's and a couple fuse holders. The only things I need now is box building materials and time. It's good to see the end in sight as far as buying stuff goes well at least for now.

Small update my 150 feet of Electron Beam 2/0 came in Monda. It feels really nice not quite as flexible as car audio wire but that's probably because it's tightly packed and has a slightly thicker jacket. The reason for switching wires is my runs are too short to reach all the way to the rear of my trunk and with the 7k I felt ofc was a good upgrade.

The black is the EB the orange is execution audio CCA 1/0.

Well for those of you that don't know I broke an HDD motor, tantric offered me a deal to replace the motor and get matching 12 inch tops however I am likely to go a different direction. Looking heavily at DSS just to try something new/different. Also got everything I really need now except for wood to build a box. I'm likely going to run 1 HDD until I decide what to do for subs. If anyone doesn't have lug crimpers I would recommend them very handy/nifty tool. In the past I'd always used crimp style lugs and electrical tape. This just seems so much better.

It would make life easier I use my snap on vice haha does suck bout them tantric motor but I personally was never into tantric.. again people this does not mean they don't have great products just my humble opinion. Good luck with what you decide for subs I congratulate you for always giving other brands a shot!

I set my box down a little too hard at a bad angle I guess. Caused the ferrite to Crack all the way around and shifting the motor. I've already spoken to Quentin about the pre sale that's why I'm considering them.

It doesn't take much once a hairline fracture already exists, even if it isn't visible.

Lol I will be doing that here in the Fall/Winter time. I'm actually running underneath the car but should be fun without a lift. I may talk with my cousin and see if he would allow me to utilize his lift for a few hours to get the wires run under the car.

It seems like running this wire was a lot harder this time but I think that's because I didn't do it exactly the easy way. I ran one run of positive wire too close to the exhaust manifold which you will see in the second picture. I cut my runs long to trim the excess at the end rather than coming up too short. I got a job working on the road that I will start in two weeks so this build is likely to slow down even more.

Making progress slowly but surely, got some strapping because my wire wouldn't really lay in the car real well.
Not coming up short this time.
Found these holes to run my wire through 6 runs barely fit but it's nice because it keeps the wire out of the trunk opening.

The extra will be used to connect the batteries and run to my amps.

Still undecided leaning in the direction of DSS waiting for a refund from tantric sounds, which is taking longer than I would like.

Default Re: The Grand Prix Rebuild nkrell11

Made a little progress this weekend had a 4 day weekend thanks to taking Friday and Monday off. Got all of my interior back in. Also got a box built for one sub for now. I think the stained/paint look is sex never quite seen it.

Did my padding different to avoid the bumps, ran the wires under instead if over helped out a little I guess.
Inside of the box all nice and 45d made the whole box from scrap I had laying around which is nice since it's cheap.
My girlfriend did the painting, she also did a little sanding and whole drilling too.
Finished product the white smudge is courtesy of my girlfriend getting a little overzealous with the painting. I swore I'd never flush mount a sub again and now I remember why. I had a gasket on the top assembly and got it to test fit perfectly then couldn't get it to fit so the gasket had to go.
