Default **wall idea for "evlspl"

i was talking with "evlspl" about building the wall in his vehicle. we discussed possibly doing just the 4 subs he has now, just in a different enclosure.

this is the wall idea i had today for 4 subs. the odd shaped piece in the middle is the port. it would be lots of layers of mdf, cut with a router and a tracer bit. looks like this port area would work well with 25ft^3, and would look cool as hell at the same time.

what you guys think?

there is a certain amount of "guesstimation" involved, but i can usually get it figured exact.

here is an easy way to alleviate the guesstimation... use something with a known volume, i.e. plastic rubbermaid tub, filled with packing peanuts or even water (if you are going to discard the piece if it is a porous material)... simply figure out what was displaced by weighing it or even counting the number of times you needed to refill the container with a specific volume of material (i.e. peanuts or water)... then apply basic math and adjust, similar method can be use for making irregular shaped enclosures when you glass... happy building and good luck, looking forward to the Build log...

It has been remarked that if one selects his own components, builds his own enclosure, and is convinced he has made a wise choice of design, then his own loudspeaker sounds better to him than does anyone else's loudspeaker. In this case, the frequency response of the loudspeaker seems to play only a minor part in forming a person's opinion.

i was trying to visualize how you were gonna get port length out of that thing.
First thing that came to mind is thats gonna be a lot of baffles...
You just gonna do a double baffle from there keep stacking smaller squares big enough to cover the port and router those?

I definitely like the idea. Should look cool and not be too bad to get functional.

Couldn't you draw it up in some cad program and use that to give you an area?

it works like a charm... I believe he will be very well satisfied if he chooses you to do so...

make the pattern then trace onto wood and start cutting and stacking pieces until your desired length, then simply glue and sand smooth... with irregular shaped ports such as this, its all about layers...

i was going to suggest this, if it is a slightly porous material, you could just cover it in some fashion to keep the water getting in.

all thats being done is the displacement either way.

cant wait to see it ben

simple math of figuring out what 3/4 thick of material displacement is and then just take length into account... no need to test the whole port(s) displacement, although you could if you really wanted too but scrap material used for test purposes is your best bet...
