Default How to: draw 45's in sketchup

I see it asked fairly often so i figured i'd make an easy write up with pictures.

The purpose of the 45 is to help maintain the proper port width through bends, as well as direct airflow in some cases. In the drawings i'll be doing a common port with 2 chambers for woofers. This situation is CRUCIAL to have the 45's in place as it cuts down drastically on wasted energy from the opposing ports firing right into eachother. every time i've done it i've seen a jump in efficiency and overall output.

Its still done the same way if your putting in a corner, just forget the other half

This is all done with sketchup, so if you don't have it google it

This write up is assuming you've already started drawing your enclosure and just want to add in the 45.

So we start here. you want to go to the inside edge of your port wall and draw a 45 degree axis, using the protractor tool in the large tool set.

Next up you'll draw a line from that corner to set the width you desire. Here its half the width of the actual port, as its splitting. If you had a standard 1 port 1 chamber you would make this line the full port width.

at the end of that line draw another 3/4" line following the same axis(assuming your using 3/4" wood)

Then draw a 90 degree axis with the same protractor tool on both end points(or all 4 in this case). Then draw in the outline on the axis from where they touch to the wall of the enclosure.

now you can take your measurements and clean up all those axis you no longer need. Just use the dimension tool to get this information.

voila?

i suck at proofreading so lemme know if anything is unclear and what not
