Default sa-8 v.2 forth order

I was just wondering if anyone had played around with this, and if so what thoughts and opinions are. I love my treo/psi 15, just not how much room it takes up. Thought about going with one v.2 in a fourth order.

4th order performance is poor. They excel in 6th orders though. Ive got 3 in a series 6th and they sound excellent

How is it sq wise? I like sql. I listen to a variety of genres, so it has to have a good range as well. How much space would it take up? My current box is 24x26x15, and I have like no trunk space left. It was almost impossible to get it in there too.

My box is huge. It hits hard though, and hits well from 35-60/65. Sq wise it is pretty solid, the flatish response definitely helps there. When they were ported they were a tad sharper, but were very peaky.

I can dig up the specs if you really are interested. I believe its series tuned to about .66 per at 30, and 1.3 each at 55. Might be a little off but you get the idea

Um you just lost me. Never done anything with bandpass. I would only run one 8. Wanting to downsize, but keep output and sq. I'm crossed at like 100-120 area. I listen to a lot of rock, but also rap, dubstep, and just about anything but country.

For a single 8, .66 tuned to 30, leading into a 1.3 front tuned at 55. Roughly. You can model it and play with it as needed. If I ever decide to boot up my laptop ill dig up the more exact numbers from when I did all the modeling of them

Also, you will not be able to cross any higher than 80 or so. You shouldn't be doing it that high anyway, but in a 6th, the response rolls off hard.

Thank you guys. How would that sound for rock? Would it hit the low stuff too? Right now i'm tuned to 33hz, and it shakes your guts on the lows. This won't be soon as I'm between jobs, but I like to plan ahead.

what about just putting your 15 in a sealed box?

would be half the size of your current box and more than likely have more output than one 8 in a 6th.

I've considered it, but I kind of want to play around with the sa-8 v.2. I like the idea if getting loud with an 8. What about a t line? Plus I think the sa has more motor force than my Treo/psi. It started life as an ssi 12.22.

A t-line will be just as big as your current box for the 15. You'll need about 110" of throat length to get the t-line right. Same with a horn, though a rear loaded horn might be a bit smaller, maybe 1/2-2/3 your current box.

Wow that sucks. Maybe it's time to go back to the drawing board. I would like to try something other than just sealed or ported, but still reduce my enclosure size. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Designed to Cxa's specs. 15"h x 20"w x 18"d, so you'd be looking at 2.4cuft gross space used in the trunk.

That's not too bad. We have the same amp. How do you like yours? I love mine. Now I know the sa is a beast, and it can take some power, but for daily in a sixth what would be safe?

I have no real experience with the SA-8 but from what I read it'll take 800-1000wrms just fine in that kind of enclosure.

For the 6th order, what kinda of port areas for 30 and the 55 tuning? I might try a single SA-8 in a 6th order. BTW, would I see any benefit using aero ports or just standard round ports?

Default Re: sa-8 v.2 forth order

Port area depends on how much Power you're running. You basically want to keep the port velocity below 30m/s.

But in short, as much port area as you can fit. Seriously though, these things are quite peaky, they end up having very high port velocities.

:P another option is putting one in a horn. But due to the size of them, it's a royal pain.

Honesly I'm with Pro on this, try running your 15 sealed.

Or if you want to use 8s in a 4th, look into sundowns SD-8 (I think that's what it's called) they seem to have a more tame motor..

EDIT

woops sorry, I thought you were the OP. Ignore the bit about running the 15 sealed lol.

Default Re: sa-8 v.2 forth order

Use winISD to figure it out. Just make sure the port velocity doesn't go over 30m/s.

The more I'm thinking about it, the more apparent that the SA-8 v2 would benefit from the use of passive radiators over ports.

I am trying to figure out how some of you guys fit any ports in this? A 2 inch port @ 30hz for a .66 box is over a foot long, forget trying to use a larger port.
