what are your comments on my system and what kind of amp would you run and why?
I have an alpine 9835 cdplayer, 2004 model yr
I have a JL 10W7 in a custom 1.1cu ft sealed fiberglass enclosure that fits in the spare tire well of my 88supra
I worked on this box all winter and its finally fiinished. I am now just waiting for the right amp to get it all up and running.
I was thinking of getting the new alpine mrd-m1005 amp, because i wanted to be able to control the amp gain from the drivers seat, but i was told by crutchfield that its not compatible with the 04 model yr headunits.
so now i was thinking of trying to find an older alpine mrd-m1000 or mrd-m1001.
I had a jl1000/1 amp i bought used from a guy for $350 what a steal right, and sold it right away on ebay for $675, because i thought it was way too much Power for the single 10.
I also dont like the fact that the jl amps dont have fuses. I know too many ppl that have nonworking jl amps. I have a nice fuseholder by the battery, but i just want the extra protection you know.
any other ideas on a decent amp would be great.
Hmmm... If I owned a JL 10W7....What amp would i Power it with?...Hmmm  OO I KNOW a 110V wall socket lol nah seriously I would probably go with a couple Hifonics Colossus' lol But I like overkilling the woofers, you may not so I dont know. Im kinda dumb when it comes to amps
for a JL W7 10, JL recommends no more than an JL 500.1. that's what i would use....JL amps are friggin awesome, and if installed correctly, there should be no worries whatsoever of not having onboard fuses.
if you don't want to do a JL amp, check out an alpine MRD-M500. it's 500 watts RMS at 2 ohms, which would match perfect with the sub.
i have an alpine iva-d300, which is a 2004 model alpine, and control my alpine mrd-m301 amp through it with the ai-net adapter with no probems whatsoever, i don't see why yours would be any different. maybe call a local dealer that has installed a few and see what they say.
i definitely would not put 1000w to a w7 10, i know someone who blew one up doing that. check the website it will show you the Power recommendations.
