Default 5+ way activepassive?

Anyone ever seen a loudspeaker system that runs 5 way or more active/passive? Not actually thinking about doing it (who am I kidding, yes I am), anyone heard or seen such a beast??

What would the speakers sizes/ranges be if one were to take on a task of this magnitude?

best regards,

EGO

This begs the question, Why?
I'd guess something about your 3-way system isn't doing it for you. Instead of adding more drivers, you should look into new ones or reposition and reinstall the old ones.

Not looking to a 5 way because my 3/4 way isn't up to par, just got to thinking about the advantages to adding more speakers/more bandpasses.

Thanks,

Erik

Got any links to installs or tech talk about one of them? I'm guessing they're not too common in Car audio though. Probably just HT.

Thanks,

Erik

IMO
insted of stuffing more drivers into a car, you should think of a way to put actual enclosures into the car for the front stage insted of just putting the speakers into sealed pods

Agreed 100% You don't need more than one speaker(per channel) if you do it right...I mean look at horns and transmission lines. Everytime you add annother crossover and driver theres going to be some dips and peaks in the response, and it can become messy.

I know you don't have the room for a horn or a TL, but with a good woofer and tweeter in a well designed box you should be able to play 30-20KHz easily...and decently flat.

My mains at home will play down to 25Hz(F10) and up to 20K or so...And they aren't terrible huge either. Cars are much different I know, but if you can seal off you door you could make it act as a ported box, tune it right and you can get a pretty good range.

IMO the only reason why we need midbasses is because of the way doors are constructed...you can get plenty of midbass out of a woofer if its in a proper enclosure.

Thats just my opinion tho.

Good input. Thanks.

So I know there are tons of drivers out there and all have different parameters and all but what would you say is a target tuning frequency for a 6.5" driver. I've checked out my studio monitors at home. They're 6.5" beasts and they have about .5 cubes tuned to about 50 hz or so. Should I shoot for something simiilar?

Or if you have any input on other driver's tuning points that would be great.

I'm totally down for making a door enclosure for my 6.5's and switching it up to a 3 way system after all. Plus, I've got a decent amount of usable airspace in my panels.

Thanks,

Erik
