Whys it matter?
He asked for information and I gave it to him.
Sorry I didn't paraphrase in my own words.
However, I am a cabinet maker and CAD designer and know a little something about wood products.

And it wasn't wiki it was this DM Lumber

Bring this thread back. Don't want it to die. How do you go about designing a t line? I have a arc8 that I want to use on about 20 watts in my room for laptop system. I already have a small 2.1 that I plan on using to Power it that does 17w at 4 ohms. I mainly want it for the whole bass range. The satellites I have go down to around 120 hz so I only need from 20 to 100. I want something exotic and massive for such a small sub. I want it to be impressive yet musical. Also how do you go about designing crossovers?

T-Line in a nutshell:

1. Find fs of sub (hz)
2.Take that number and divide it by the speed of sound (1130/hz)
3. Multiply that number by .25 - This is the length that the t-line needs to be.
4. Find the actual cone area of the sub. Since yours is an 8 it is probably like 7 inches. (pi*r^2) (3.14*3.5^2) This number is the port area, it must stay the same throughout the port.
5. Thats it, you have the length and the port area.

Try to have the least amount of bends possible.

OR you can make the t-line the same freq as the bass boost. I just looked up your sub and it has a fs of 22.7hz. Thats gonna be a big box. Using 45hz (if thats what your boost is at) would make for a smaller box. However, since this is going in a room the size shouldnt be much of an issue.

So if the fs really is 22.7hz

We would go:

((1130/22.7)*.25) = 12.44ft

I just measured my 8 and I got 6.5 inches. So,

(3.25^2)pi= 33.18in^2

So now you can come up with the dimensions. Lets say I want the box to be 9 inches tall internally. (10" tall w/ wood) 33.18 / 9 = 3.68" Okay the driver wont fit. Lets try 7" so that it can mount. 33.18 / 7 = 4.74" Damn, mine still wouldnt fit. I'd have to add a spacer or something if I wanted to do this apparently. Oh well, I would make the port 7 x 4.75" and call it good. Next the port needs to be 12.44 ft long, I'd make it 12.5 just for simplicity. Optimally the port would extent behind the driver for a bit, turn and continue parallel to the baffle for like 5-6ft then do a 180 so that the port will end with the port opening right next to the sub.

I think thats about it.

SKBT120 VS D3100

price,durability,power

Is the xs worth the extra for less ah? Going to do two "strapped" with some aluminum buss bars eventually when I move to 6k. Personal experience please. Which would you choose?

You can tune differently. I would use WINISD for a more accurate response. Since you are in a house then cabin gain should be a much smaller factor since half space is going to be similar to a room. But those calculations look right

This is probably the easiest way to make a tline.

Just Imagine - YouTube

Make sure to use waveguides on the turns of the box.

What exactly would be powering it? Is it a 120v or 12 volt device? You can get inline rca xovers but I would much rather use an actual crossover.. but thats just me. A simple computer power supply or laptop power supply and a maxxsonics mx-3 would be an excellent choice. Also through a medium sized cap in there to reduce any noise.

wont work. it wouldnt be able to calculate anything because the port length formula goes crazy. i tried with a .25 cube box with the port area as my sd and the port length was in the negative

12v batts= 13-14v Alt
14v batt= 15-16v Alt
16v batt= 17-18v Alt

Why the 1-2 volt diffrence on the Alt/Charger?

Also, please go check out the post in my build log. You shall be excited as me

Charging voltage needs to be least 1 v over the resting voltage for any useable charging rate. Anything under is called a trickle charge, and far from ideal.

I started last night designing one that way. Might as well see what it could do. My eight doesn't want to fit either but a fiberglass baffle should do the trick. It will take awhile but I need a project

Quick question since this is what the thread is for. So for the big 3 the fuse between the alt and the bat is supposed to be a 150 amp fuse right?

Depends on the amps your pulling. What size alt? Batt? And how much power you pushing?

For the big 3 you fuse at the wires "amp rating" like for 1/0 ofc use a 300 or 250.

If your planning now, I would just go ahead and do the big 3 in 1/0 like that later down the road you won't have to replace it if your system grows.

I have a quick question,

When would you guys suggest using a double baffle (not just for good looks) but like when do you think it would be a good idea?
