Can someone explain how exactly the different OHM wiring works? I have seen the diagrams but what exactly are all the positive and negative labels i am seeing? For example, I am wiring 2 dual 4 ohm subs at 1 ohm. How will that work?
I want to try and Wire my system myself or me and a few buddies. I'd rather get some experience than bring it to someone.

Ok heres some diagrams.http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftec...l+-+2+ohms+x+2
The positive terminal goes to the positive terminal on your amp. same withe the negative. Generally when a positive current flows through the positive terminal of your sub, the cone moves outward. When a negative current flows through the positive terminal, the cone moves inwards. Your amp provides the Speaker with the positive and negative signals. If you hook it up backwards, dont worry, it will just move backwards, but will sound the same. ok now that thats out of the way.
Subs are like resistors, they(for the most part) follow ohms law. If you have two subs and connect the -ve's and +ve's together, this is paralleling, the resistence will be half of what each individual sub would be. if you connect one subs + to the other -, this is called series, the resistance is equal to the sum of the subs resistances(actually impedances, but same diff).
Its important you follow the diagrams closely, because wiring a sub out of phase(a fancy way of saying backwards) will cause it to cancel out the other sub. wiring voice coils out of phase will turn your sub into a space heater lmao...so pay attention!! its very simple.
one last thing, after you wire it all up, grab an ohmmeter and measure the subs resistance, if it isnt near what you were aiming for, check for mistakes, if its veryyyyyy small(close to zero or zero) you have a short circuit. Not many amps like short circuits lol.
Hope this helped
