Default Looking for a decent cap

Well, I never thought I'd have this problem, but my voltage is actually too high. When a bass note hits, the alternator holds the voltage at a solid 15v or so, but unfortunately when the note stops, my voltage spikes to well over 18v until the voltage regulator brings it back down. Unfortunately this voltage spike switches my amp into protect mode for a few seconds each time.

I know that an aftermarket voltage regulator will probably solve this problem, but I believe that a good cap will work just as well for less.

My question is, who makes a good cap with decent efficiency and a long lifespan?

a cap wont solve the problem. the problem most likely lies in your voltage regulator in the alternator. what Car do you have?

It's a 95 mustang with a RF T215 on a MTX 81001 (birthsheet says 1450wrms @ 2ohm). It has a pretty ****ty battery in it, but the alt was remanufactured right before I bought it, it's a bamf considering it's stock. I did the big 3 and my voltages were raised across the board. I idle at around 15v and will drop down to 13-14v on heavy bass notes with the brights on. The alt supports the load 100%, it never even touches the batteries voltage (thank god, cuz that battery is a real pos)

Kranny: A cap will solve this problem. Capacitors are specifically designed to smooth out voltage drops and spikes (drops being due to a sudden demand for current and spikes being due to a sudden stop in that demand for current).

replace your POS battery with something good and see if that helps cause it could just be that your battery is making your voltage regulator go crazy trying to keep it charged and also run all your electronics.

hmmm, that's a good point. I'll have to run up to autozone and have them run a stress test on it. see how much of a pos it really is.
