has anyone got any reviews on a 3sixty.3 with passive crossovers on a component setup. i have a set of focal speakers but not all that pleased with the sound. i have 2 sets of access 165 a1s and a rf t600.4 amp off a jvc kwav70bt. i plan on upgrading the speakers later just trying to get the most out of what i have now so i can make the upgrade easier

I had Focals as well and they sounded good but wasnt loud enough for my setup. I am planning on purchasing the 3sixty.3 myself next week.

yeah i didn't think they were loud enough either i didn't much like the sound quality either in higher volumes it sounded really tinney maybe i should have put a couple of noise filter in. id really like to get louder and get rid of some of the higher frequencies but im not sure if the 3sixty.3 would suit me well with passive crossovers it seems as though it would be a better fit with an active setup.
i really don't know the interface for the processor so im not sure how well it could adjust the frequencies in my passive crossover. anyone have some advice on this

Correct me if I'm wrong, but couldnt you set up an active network through the 3sixty.3? I'm pretty sure it has individual cross overs right? Then you can set the cross overs for the "fronts" at whatever you need for your tweets, and set the cross overs for the "rears" for whatever you need for the midbass, and eliminate the passive cross overs. But idk, i havent studied up on the .3

The 3sixty.3 will allow you to go active as you can adjust crossovers, curves, etc...

I agree.. passive xovers with an active xover is kind of a waste.

so your saying the 3sixty.3 is more of a programmable active crossover?
Basically the 360 is an active processor capable of oem high input integration with tons of eq options as well as phase and time delay options.

The 3.sixty3 is a DSP. There is no point in using it with passive components. The whole point of it is to use it in an active set up so you can set individual crossovers, time alignment, and EQ. Adding this to the mix is going to do very little to nothing to how your speakers sound. The only way you can change the sound is by tuning it and doing it right. And completely tuning an active set up is no walk in the park.. far from it.

Seems like a nice device. But from all the builds I've read on DIYMA, no one uses it.
a lot of people on DIYMA use it. As a matter of fact its looked at as the go-to processor for someone on a budget.

Going full active definitely isn't a walk in the park though. Just 2 way+ sub is pretty complicated. 3 way is quite complicated. for 3 way + sub, that's 1 crossover point per tweeter, 2 per midrange, 2 per midbass, and 2 per sub stage. Along with setting the gain for each stage. The crossover slope for each stage. The phase for each stage. And time delay for each stage. It's not trivial at all. Probably up around a hundred things that need adjusted.

Well I consider myself having an active setup, and found after a little time and patience, it wasn't much of an issue at all.. I also wouldn't want anyone to be intimidated by the process either....
As far as time delay and levels, that's all done internally via the mic, isn't it??

Not all active setups have that capability. I was fortunate that my 80prs does. The 3sixty.3 does too afaik. I guess if the system can set it up for you it's pretty trivial. But I don't think it can do a better job than a human that knows what their doing.
But anyways i wasn't really thrilled with the way my 80prs set things. I went back and tweaked every setting. It defaulted to 12dB/oct filters, I don't know why. Since using them means you need to flip the phase to have it sum flat at the crossover point. I would much sooner use 24dB/oct filters that don't require that phase inversion to sum properly. It also turned my sub down as much as it possibly could. I like bass... I had to tweak that .
I found it somewhat challenging to setup, and I've built active crossovers from scratch (for my monitors, not related to Car audio).

Fallen. I might call upon your help for tips on my next build. 3 way plus sub. ... filters/tuning help
