like the title says im wanting to build a home system. i know Caraudio but never really messed with home stereo equipment before so would it be better to build a system from parts (ex. an amp and getting speakers and building boxes) or just going out and buying a premade system? i only wanta spend around $200-250 on something.
ive looked around in stores and was not very impressed with most of the systems in that price range, so is it even possible to build something for that?
If you look for some old school stuff you could get a good start with that budget.
I would go to thrift shops, if you spend the time looking around, you can find some
good stuff for cheap. I picked up an 8" powered sub for five bucks, once!
Check craigslist. You could probably find something decent in that price range.
But if you spent a little more, you could really piss your neighbors off.
I've had a lot of luck with craigslist, some people damn near give stuff away.
I paid $400 for my Energy Veritas 2.3i's--retail=$2800.00
I paid $125 for my Mirage OM-C2HB-1---retail=$800.00
Before I got into the higher end stuff I bought a Sony 5.1 receiver with 4 small speakers, a center and like a 6 1/2" powered subwoofer for $50.00
I got rid of two of the small speakers and replaced them with some Technics towers w/ 2 12's each for $50------------For $100 total, it sounded damn good.
And the guy I bought the technics from, threw in a cheap GoVideo 5.1 home theater in a box and a bunch of 16 gauge wire FREE!!
Check Craigslist daily and be patient, and you'll find something nice.
