Hi everyone. Really new to the forum. Somewhat new to Car audio. I've actually been into it for quite a while but not all the way and probably didn't do a while lot correctly before. About 9 years ago I got my first system which was the cheap of the cheap. I had two Sony Xplode 12s and two JBL 10s running on one Sony Xplode 2000 watt max amp. I don't even know what the rms was but I'm suse it was terrible. So, stepped up, at least what I thought was stepping up, to two Volfenhag 12s in a custom sealed box with a volfenhag 1200 watt amp. They at least sounded good. I had those for about a year and then had nothing. A few weeks ago, I bought two Alpine Type-R 12s and a pioneer 1200 watt rms amp. Now I just need to get a box built and I'll be good to go. For a start at least. I've been contemplating actually getting into competition pretty soon but I don't think I can really do that with Type-R 12s, at least from what I've been reading. Seems like they're good subs as far as main stream subs are considered. I'm big into cell phones and car audio right now. Really just want to get the best out of what I have right now and then Build from there. I'm always excited to learn. I'm close to the Chicagoland area and would love to go to a show. Just don't know when they are.
I think that's about it. Anything else, just hit me up.

with that said you are correct in the fact that type r's are not competition subs, but in the right box they will sound good and last a long time, as long as you give them clean power. good luck with the build
