I have been a Xbox fanboy since its existence but fawk the XBone and all hail the PS4.

If I wasn't already a member of the PC Master Race I'd be switching over to Playstation.

Re: Computer Thread

yup indeed. the xbone is a failure. the ps4 won by defualt.
its 100$ cheaper than the xbone, better performance, looks better, doesnt require 24/7 internet

yea.. i really am not seeing a reason for someone to buy the one... all that insane drm stuff on it makes no sense and i just can't see anyone wanting to buy it. as much as i love forza there will have to be some damn cool uses for that kinect for me to even consider it

Re: Computer Thread

lol.... true fanboys if they wont switch... the one is absolute trash 100$ more for absolutely nothing better at all.

and 220 tdb is nuts.... idk of many boards that can even handle that much powah but stock 5ghz is indeed crazy.

What would it take to run a website like eBay server-wise? Thinking of starting an advertising type website for daily services in Australia and maybe the US to start with but eventually worldwide. Would need to support maybe 2-3000 users in Aus and 50-60000 in the US.

Anyone know anything about that sort of thing?

Well, what exactly is this website for again? Just displaying advertisements on other sites, tracking clicks, and user activity is a lot less demanding than something like eBay where user information is stored, pictures are uploaded, transactions occur, etc.

Honestly, I have no idea.

Really don't want to go into more detail, someone might steal my idea and set up before me. :-P

It'll be a stand alone site, and very feature intensive with specific searches to narrow down into locations with maps and other tools. Can't really say more than that without giving it away. ;-)

Re: Computer Thread

well depending on the amount of data you plan on having to transfer. that being said if its like an add type thing as said that is very easily set up as its just keeping records and not causing a ton of data flow. but godaddy is the first thing that comes to mind for starting off. and as you get bigger and more traffic starts flowing your gonna need to either purchase a much more powerful server host, something like iweb would be a cheap solution for decent traffic flow.

unless your talking about building your own server. in that case all you needs is a very fast internet connection along with a decent computer with lots of ram and hdd space. something like intel i7/xeon based with 24gb of ram or so and w/e hdd space you need depends on how much data your server must have to save. so something like ebay would need a decent amount of hdd space as thats a ton of data stored on the server.

building your own server comp and hosting your own server is prob the cheapest option in the long run but expensive to start. and leasing a domain and server would be cheaper to start but would cost in the long run. something like 200$ a month for a cheaper server hosting. vs 1000-1500 for a decent server comp built.

You're going to need bandwidth for staters. With that many people you're going to eat up bandwidth. You're going to also need a machine or multiple machines with a ton of memory. You're also going to need a costly backup solutions incase of catastrophic failure.
