Intel's Haswell May Be Last Interchangeable Desktop CPU?

holy balls. no more removable cpus?

this seems crazy and also seems like this would be terribly hard on the mobo industry, if true.

Re: Computer Thread

I doubt that. And if they do that I'm sure they will have a socket version available at a higher cost

I guess AMD would make more moneh since people who build custom PCs seem to be on the rise

Followed the link to fake i7's and found that too. It might be a smart move by Intel with the desktop marking dying out. Laptops and tablets are already nearly impossible to upgrade so why not switch over to that format to benefit more end users. They mentioned smaller form factor and reduced resistance so thats a plus. mobo companies could still create their own designs and just load them with the Intel chips.

Been reading random articles for the last hour or so. In this one they're speculating the problems a warp drive will have when they don't even know if its possible to create one. Warp Drives

u can see hard drives under neath the screens and my ps3 controllers and the ps3 is all crammed right on the desk. the 360 controller in the middle is there for when playing pc games i can pull it towards me. i do not own a 360.

Re: Computer Thread

Are those hard drives underneath the screen in use or were you just mentioning them?

Re: Computer Thread

uh-oh

my sis just bought me this for xmas
http://i798.photobucket.com/albums/y...Capture-14.png

when i get er. ill be aiming for 4.7ghz :) from reading its achievable with he stock cooler without any voltage changing :)

was gonna just get the phenom ii 965 as its cheaper and the fx line seemed to be better. but piledriver finally became better than the phenom line even at stock speeds so i deicded the extre 40$ was worth it

Nice mango. Will liquid cooling be necessary for that high of a clock speed?

Perhaps I should bring my i5-2500k to 4 Ghz

dumpy 11-29-2012 03:33 AM

Re: Computer Thread

it shouldnt be, i used to run mine (555BE, 3.2 stock) and i ran it at 4ghz on stock air. iv since then bought a aftermarket cooler and turned it down abit but still, those amd's oc well

64gb is a waste :/ Seriously there is no way he could utilize even an eighth of that fully. I would have bought the biggest baddest ssd they make lol. Oh and ATI for the graphics

this ^ ....

ati over nvidia anyday of the week. better performance per $ and better efficiency, 7970 > 680 and 64gb is stupidly to0 much. waisted money there... and a xeon? is this a server computer? xeons were meant for servers hence the reason there the only intel cpu that can go on a dual socket mobo. same with amd opteron. a i7 would have been plenty for any high end computer other than servers that have alot of traffic.

but o well wasnt ur money right? =P

Re: Computer Thread

Nvidia cards are optimized for final cut and photoshop IIRC and he prefers them over ATI. I have an ATI in my rig so you know how I feel about them lol.

He wanted the 64gb ram, he's got money to blow so why not.

240GB SSD is plenty fo him too.

I recommended an i7 extreme to him at first and he wanted something with more cores. Mac Pros use Xeon processors so the one he got will be great. Come on now, what's not to love about having a $1,100 processor lol.
