Re: Computer Thread
Intel's Haswell May Be Last Interchangeable Desktop CPU?
holy balls. no more removable cpus? this seems crazy and also seems like this would be terribly hard on the mobo industry, if true. |
Re: Computer Thread
I doubt that. And if they do that I'm sure they will have a socket version available at a higher cost
|
Re: Computer Thread
I guess AMD would make more moneh since people who build custom PCs seem to be on the rise

Re: Computer Thread
Are those hard drives underneath the screen in use or were you just mentioning them?
|
Re: Computer Thread
nah there just laying there. i cant use them as there ide. my mobo has no ide connections. there not all that big anyways. its a 80gb/160/20
the 20 i do use in my usb external hardrive connector. its used as a install disk. i use it to instal windows when i need to. |
Re: Computer Thread
uh-oh
my sis just bought me this for xmas http://i798.photobucket.com/albums/y...Capture-14.png when i get er. ill be aiming for 4.7ghz :) from reading its achievable with he stock cooler without any voltage changing :) was gonna just get the phenom ii 965 as its cheaper and the fx line seemed to be better. but piledriver finally became better than the phenom line even at stock speeds so i deicded the extre 40$ was worth it |
Re: Computer Thread
Nice mango. Will liquid cooling be necessary for that high of a clock speed?
Perhaps I should bring my i5-2500k to 4 Ghz |
Re: Computer Thread
it shouldnt be, i used to run mine (555BE, 3.2 stock) and i ran it at 4ghz on stock air. iv since then bought a aftermarket cooler and turned it down abit but still, those amd's oc well

ati over nvidia anyday of the week. better performance per $ and better efficiency, 7970 > 680 and 64gb is stupidly to0 much. waisted money there... and a xeon? is this a server computer? xeons were meant for servers hence the reason there the only intel cpu that can go on a dual socket mobo. same with amd opteron. a i7 would have been plenty for any high end computer other than servers that have alot of traffic. but o well wasnt ur money right? =P |
Re: Computer Thread
Nvidia cards are optimized for final cut and photoshop IIRC and he prefers them over ATI. I have an ATI in my rig so you know how I feel about them lol.
He wanted the 64gb ram, he's got money to blow so why not. 240GB SSD is plenty fo him too. I recommended an i7 extreme to him at first and he wanted something with more cores. Mac Pros use Xeon processors so the one he got will be great. Come on now, what's not to love about having a $1,100 processor lol. |
