By cross section do you mean the area of the conductor right? Why does the area of the cable matter anyway if you have the resistance of the cable per foot? I would think that a cable that has a cross sectional area of say 10kcmil that had a resistance of 1 ohm pre 1,000 feet, would have the exact same voltage drop as a cable with a cross sectional area of 5kcmil and a resistance of 1 ohm per 1,000 feet because the electrons would see the exact same amount of resistance in both cables.?

where:
L = wire length in meters
I = current in amps
R = resistance of cable in ohms
A = cross-section of cable in in millimeters squared

miklgagne theres some web site that calculates it I forget what one, maybe if you search termpro. I've seen it before. It also has wattage lost in speaker wire too.

How do I calculate voltage drop across a wire?

I have been staring at the ohms law chart for the past 10 minuets and I just cant seem to figure it out. Maybe its because I am tired or my brain is tired of playing games for the past 8 hours. :P Anyway how do I calculate voltage drop in a circurt? I know the values for current resistance and starting voltage. I need to know the ending voltage across the circuit. I am trying to figure out how much voltage is lost in a run of wire.
