Zins184 I would have suggested that spend his 400 on upgrades but I didn't know if knew how to install it. but yea if you can install the parts your self just do an upgrade.

Savage You could always try to pick up a refurb if you don't want to spend a fortune on something decent.
I picked up a refurbed HP with an e6300 c2d, 2gb of ram, a 160gb HD and vista home premium for just over $400 shipped about 5 months ago. Not bad in stock form, and it came with a 90 day warranty.
The barebones idea is good as well.
But $400 would be plenty to pick up a decent CPU, mobo and 2GB of ram if upgrading was an option. I see that Newegg has c2d e4400s for $140, a decent mobo can be picked up for $100 and you can get 2gb of decent ram for well under $100. Just a thought.

Cap'n'Crunch why not just sink $400 into the computer you already have?
01-01-2008 05:12 AM
Dublife Since you already have the HDD, you could probably get a barebones kit from NewEgg and start from there. Then just upgrade RAM.(Or you could just build it yourself which is the cheapest route) Either or =)

here's the barebones btw http://www.newegg.com/Store/Category...es-Accessories

sexynipps well you actually could get a pc for $400. assuming you wont be doing any heavy video editing etc. then you wont need a quad or core2duo. could get a 3.0ghz pentium d for $60 after rebate.

RE_XXX Well, buddy to be honest. You can get a computer at that price....but along with it comes the saying "You Get What You Pay For". A good working computer runs for more. I paid nearly 3 grand for just my tower, and it was custom built, not factory. And my computer isnt exactly TOP of the line at the moment.
