Normal songs off production that are not HD (refer to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war ) will have momentary points where it clips but its within reason (usually not HARD clip)... we're talking milliseconds nothing that can hurt the system over a period of time
Now If I were to boost a song without knowing what to do and clip the hell out of it for long periods of time then it becomes an issue.
This is what I'm getting at when I mean clipping within a song...
Once again everything re-checked with a scope and its not indicating any clipping within the signal even though the MX-3 can be showing bright red. I mean I could have a faulty unit from the factory but there really isn't anything out there that I can compare it to...

Ohh it shows it... It was showing soft, hard, pre at volumes I know things can't be clipping... I can turn the gain all the way down on the amp and it still will show clipping Also it hard clips (solid red) when there is no physical clipping shown on a scope
So the logical conclusion from my testing was that it shows physical clipping within the song from production not any of your equipment
Clipping indication is subject to the manufacturer...
Don't get me wrong the unit does what its designed to do... Just that fact that it can be red as hell and not hurt your system because in reality its not the signal thats clipping but the song and you can't control that
I've run HD tracks flac (96 khz sampling rate and up) (Loudness isn't an issue) and I rarely see any pre-clip
Not sure if you know about it but take a look on google and search "Loudness War"

I will actually be selling mine soon... getting something for the whole system... Next couple months or so
Been great, works great, did what I wanted it to do... Not to sure on the clipping though... Doesn't seem to indicate anything really as we tested it with a scope and HU wasn't clipping (tested) and no way the unit can tell if the amp was clipping (which it wasn't tested it as well)... Only thing I can think of is the actual song when it was produced... So really the clipping indicator is just a flashing accessory...
For a line driver:
We tested the output voltage on it to 9V and produced clean voltage no clipping on the scope so as a line driver its more then capable of doing that. Also the Eq options on it work as well so it does what its designed to do...

Mx-3
I figure someone here may know the answer to this question:
I know the MX-3 shows clipping but is it from the MX-3 or is it the actual amp itself? The manual says its in the signal... Would that be from the HU or the MX-3 introducing it? Just curious how accurate it is...
I don't see how it could actually show the amp clipping but the unit itself sending a clipped signal to the amp, or from HU...
