I've been using my sundown on my OA and I just keep the gains down. I've never even smelled the coils burn on this sub before. This sub can take some abuse though... But still you get the point :P

Thanks everybody! I appreciate it. I am actually looking into another precision power amp. Its a little lower power rating, but damping factor is 3000+ and specs look a lot better.

What Matt said you could put a 10k amp on those subs if you want to just be careful setting the gains .... but yes that amp will do fine pushing those subs

ok no amp is ever too powerful for any subwoofer as long as you can control your self from turning the gain up.

the enclosure can help in the drivers ability to handle the power.....keep the signal clean.
yes you can dial the gain back to limit the power they will see.

good luck on your journey.

Is this amp too much power for this driver?

I am looking at this amp as a possibility to power my subwoofers. This amp is going to drive one sub per channel. It will not be bridged.

Here is the sub specs. I was told recently that I could get an amp that is more powerful than the driver and tune it down to a lower voltage as to not destroy anything. Is this true? Am I looking at something that has too much power?

Subwoofer

Tang Band W6-1139SIF 6-1/2" Paper Cone Subwoofer Speaker | 264-919
Amp

Precision Power S420.2 420W Max 2-Channel Sedona Series Class A/B Car Audio Amplifier at Onlinecarstereo.com

The all has some decent specs for the price, and that is why I want it.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions
Nick
