Re: c pillar wall in astro van
is it any cheaper to order straight from psi or find a dealer to get a quote? two 18's would look awesome behind the second seat.probably be big ported wall tuned to about 30 hz for kicks and giggles. subs on passenger side and port on drivers side. and at least 150-200 ^2" of port. box around 8 cubes per 18 after displacements.just a thought.

Re: c pillar wall in astro van
i just realized i need more port area now! 63 ^2 inches is not enough for this bandpass box /power combo.with a nominal 1 ohm load i figure im getting close to or over rms (700 watts) after box rise to almost 3 ohms at resonance. the autotek was probably closer to 350-400 at that impedence. when i get done with the big three and a second batt i will try to clamp to see what i really got.
of course a 250 amp alt is looking like a major purchase as well.this addiction is starting get expensive.

Re: c pillar wall in astro van
got the belva in i couldn't run the 1/0 straight to it .terminals only accept 4 gauge. so far so good on it. i am not running it full tilt theres alot of amp left. but the jbls are maxing out faster than with my autotek sx1700. the flex test makes me think i made a good investment with the belva.

Re: c pillar wall in astro van
memphis a long way from morristown/knoxville. two 18" psi platform 1 walled bandpass should drop some serious bass. thats a option. thanks for the input guys. i'll try to keep everyone posted.

Re: c pillar wall in astro van
And yes that rule still applies however these there platform 1 drivers are very well rounded and can be used in a lot of different enclosures....they will excel in sealed yes....but will have more output in ported or best of both worlds use a bandpass

Re: c pillar wall in astro van
Its a mid QTS driver meaning it will do well in both sealed and ported enclosures but it will do great in a 4th order bandpass....but like I said there versitile as hell .....and psi is close to me and not to far from you there located 30 miles southwest of memphis

Re: c pillar wall in astro van
the t/s specs seem out of place for what i'm used to seeing for ported box subs. i always thought qtc above .5 was sealed box territory. below .4 was ported. when has this changed? am i missing something with how those psi subs work?

Re: c pillar wall in astro van
mid 140's and haul the kids around what more could you ask for. i wont play it that loud when they are in it but at least the potential would be there to pound on occasion.

Re: c pillar wall in astro van
that might be an option. i want to do c pillar because i have 4 kids and i want them to be able to ride with dad sometimes. i'm going through a divorce right now and i have worked weekend night shift for almost 18 years straight. now i finally get to be off weekends and i want to do shows again but take the kids.
like i said the jbls dont have to stay. they are what i have right now. i dont know where to get those brands in my neck of the woods(east tn)psi always got good pub around here when someone could get hold of them.

Re: c pillar wall in astro van
I don't think a lot of people do c pillar walls in astrovans most do a slide in enclosure or b pillar....and if the belva is all you can do I would do a 2 18's wall ported kinda low....I'd look at psi platform 1 18's with no options they should get down with 700 RMS each....might even get d1.4 coils so you can wire to .75 ohm....I would expect you to be in the mid to high 140's possibly low 150's ....

Re: c pillar wall in astro van
of course my db was on an old audiocontrol mic,lol those were never as consistent as term pro.the jbls are pretty efficient i could get two more and another belva bb3000 later.the one could push those jbls at 2 ohm pretty good.decisions decisions then try my luck with one amp per two subs.....

Re: c pillar wall in astro van
i dont have to keep the jbl's just kicking the tires and seeing what happens. the belva is all i can do right now. i think with good electrical it should get 1200-1400 rms at 1 ohm nominal. twice rated power for the jbl's. ive done a wall before at b pillar in a merc sable. tuned to 35 hz it definitely pounded.with only 400 watts rms i hit 142 db @ sealed on dash at 38 hz ten years ago. not bad back in the day. 4th order would be cool but i only have about 30 cubes before displacement at c pillar to work with. i could do 4 decent 15's ported getting 350 watts or so per 15. or 8 cheap dvc 12's wired to 1 ohm. either way i want to know if anyone has done this with similar vehicle.

Re: c pillar wall in astro van
Well c pillars usually get loud sealed or slot ported all forward facing...or you could do a large ration 4th order but with a c pillar wall I'd try and fit 2 18's...but if you want to stick with the sub's you got then I'd get a half ohm stable amp and get 2 more jbl's and do a ported wall

c pillar wall in astro van
hey guys just wondering if a c pillar wall build is even worth my time in my 89 astro van.i currently have two jbl gto 1514d subs in a 1.5 to 1 bandpass tuned to 48 hz behind second seat. a old autotek street machine 1700 sx is running at 1 ohm before box rise to it about 650 rms or so.it sounds good right now but being a old school basshead i want more i am getting an belva bb3000 soon and am going to use it over the autotek. big 3 will be done and a second battery as well. i am looking for a ground pounder that will at least do mid 140's and still be able to haul my kids around. i can get more subs if needed but a 3 to 1 bandpass will take a lot of space. i may go ported tuned low in the c pillar wall. any ideas? current box is 4 cubes sealed after displacement and almost 6 ported side with a 9" round port firing backwards. the resonance of box and van are real close now it gets fairly loud when sealed up now. windows down not so much.
