Re: Eclipse Owners (CD5000 Owners mainly)

The remote control sucks........

It turns the volume up and down too slowly. That's my only real complaint besides the track knob on the headunit being too sensitive. So, use the volume on the headunit, and the track selector on the remote.

Besides that, the cleanest sounding headunit I've owned in 20 years.

easy...

pros:

clean, "flat sounding" out of the box, powerful preouts, nice display that is also simple, you can change the volume and read the track title at the same time (unlike alpine's 9855), ejects and takes in cds super fast, NEVER skips (mine hasnt, not once), PEQ works flawlessly, feels built well IMO.

cons:

volume and track buttons are too sensitive, while playing mp3 you can only fast forward 10 seconds at a time (no less), can get VERY hot... but only the back heatsink does (minor if you ask me), lack of built in crossovers (just subwoofer up to 24db per octave), time alignment can not be set manually (only has presets)

the only things that actually bug me is the track button being too sensitive and the lack of crossovers.

Well anyways, you guys have actually restored my faith in Eclipse, and the CD5000 looks to be the deck for my next install.

Deck says...CD5425 on it. I dunno if a CD5000 is a different model, if that's the case, then call me a noob, but I just figured they were in a series with different model numbers each year. This could be a lower end model, but it was a 350 dollar deck.

Here's a list of all the funtions listed in the owners manual.

Bass
Mid
Treble
Balance
Loud
SVC
Non-Fader
Fade

High Pass Filter Can be turned on and Off. The cut off frequency is fixed at 80 hz and the slope is fixed at 18 db/octave. Adjustmanets cannot me made (accoridn to the manual)

The LPF is the same way. Can Be tutned on and off, and is set at 80 hz and 18db/octave.

Phase - Allows the apeakers to combine without any disharmoney.

Those are the only settings I can find in the manual. If there is some Advanced mode, tell me how to get to it, because this manuel dosen't. Any help on how to use it is appreciated, but I just can't find anything else on it.

Re: Eclipse Owners (CD5000 Owners mainly)

The SQ i get from my cd8445 is great. There aren't long load times at all so I'm not sure what your talking about. The remote is slow, but that's about all I can say against the thing. The 8v pre-outs are real nice along with the control I have shaping my sound. The eclipse units are complicated, I had to actually refer to my manual to operate the thing to it's full potential. I would say def. stay with the higher pre-out voltage, def. worth it.

Re: Eclipse Owners (CD5000 Owners mainly)

they didnt make the cd5000 3 years ago.

top models were:

3 years ago 8443
2 ............... 8454
1 ............... 8455
now .......... 7000

previos years were all 5 or 8 series and the model # coresponds with the preout voltage.

this year is the first year ive seen since 3 years ago that the model number are different

I'm thinking of picking up a newer Eclipse for my next deck since the have good SQ, and have added more features since I bought mine.

Re: Eclipse Owners (CD5000 Owners mainly)

The Eclipse's PEQ is so easy to use once you get the hang of it. I'd agree Alpine's is a PITA.

My complaints about the Eclipse 8445:

no 3 way crossover (the 8455 had it, I should have bought that)
no pause button
the worst remote I've even seen
intermittant turn off thump. (seems to be one of those "bugs" mentioned earlier. when I called Fujitsu-ten, they knew exactly what I was talking about and gave me a return authorization immediately)

Those aren't enough to make me buy anything else though, it's a great unit for SQ as long as you don't want to go active crossover using the headunit.

i would suggest it for an SQ setup. but for usability. i would say the 7ooo just becuase i thinks its easier to use. but thsta just me i get 70% off retail so the price dont change much for me lol.

i think i can get the 7ooo for 250. heh

circuit city has always been like that. heck I was getting mtx 81000d's straight from mtx for cost or LESS!

I dont see how you couldnt figure out the eq... its the easiest para ive ever used. I mean you hit sound then peq then hit the track button down to go to each band and track select for each freq. then use the fastforward and rewind to raise or lower in db and hit the number 6 to change Q. i dont think a para could get any easier but thats just my opinion.

try an alpine 9855's para. it took my hours of sitting there WITH the manual and I got sooo frustrated that I switched it to the graphic eq.

the only thing that kinda bugs me is why has eclipse NEVER included a pause function. I remember when I wanted an eclipse years ago and the highest model had the pause? weird! (i think iot was a 8445 but it was a while ago when I didnt have the money or time for audio so I dont remember)

yes like I said previously the track selector is WAY to sensitive but not enough to make me dislike my cd5000 (it makes it up in performance)

Basically all my deck does is bass, treble, mids, balance and fade, a non-fader that I don't even use, loud, and a source volume control. This could be just the older models, because I don't pay alot of attention to Eclipse nowadays.

Re: Eclipse Owners (CD5000 Owners mainly)

yes as I said it distorts after 68 with non-fader set to zero. tested out on my back from work just now and it worked great at volume 68 (way less heat at the subwoofer)

btw the parametric eq is great... I use it to dip my reponse when my windows are closed, otherwise my tweeters can be a little aggressive.

i wasnt interested in the cd7000 as I hate flashy graphic displays and a HUGE turnoff was the 5 volt preout? I thought this was a step up? HA!

I think the only things missing from the cd5000 is a better remote (it sucks) and the xover points for front and rear so I can use the deck as the active xover. whats the point of moving to a higher priced deck to get the extra features and have just 5 volt preout? sure eclipse needs to make money on an already high priced deck but dont dull one area to make another better... classic car audio magic marketing

yes stratus... the cd5000 is almost identical to last years 8445 but with the bugs removed LOL... last years 8445 was plagued with problems (or so it seems for many people including me)

You can play and Record on to the Magic gate card, It does have an EQ
Its part of your setup in Menu ( it can be turned off) it has a 7 Band Perametric,
but its too difficult for most users, Its in the Advanced mode off and it wont
show up. Ipod conductivity is Easy with a adaptor, Charges and displays just like your ipod, (iPC-106), eclipse also has a eServe so you can customize your deck and dl maps for the gps, Add the gps ant and you get your directions
turn by turn.

Never Buy from anyone but A DEALER! They are very strict on there Dealer Control, If its on the INTERNET, ITS A B-STOCK OR USED and they will

do you know if its one of those units that the magic gate only acceps memory stick and not the memory stick pro? Very helpful information so far, what in your opinion is worth going up form the 5k to the 7k series?

Re: Eclipse Owners (CD5000 Owners mainly)

Yours is old then, or low line. My 8445 rocks. It has adjustable crossover point, adjustable to 24db slope, magicgate, eiserve navigation, 7 band parametric, time alignment and anything else you could ever want in a good headunit. I can't even list off all the features.

The CD5000 looks to be the same as last year's 8445.

Re: Eclipse Owners (CD5000 Owners mainly)

well im talking about the brand new units, i'll be buying locally from a dealer. I was thinking about the 7000 initially but i dont really see anything it offers that i like over the 5000. I like the look of the 5k, 8v preouts FTW. The only other unit that interest me in thier lineup is the AVN7000. I'm not sure on anything really to do with it either though

good god above 68?? i have my system set to be loud as **** at 60 lol. i love mine. the cross over i believe is for front, rear and preout, not just subwoofer.
but i basically have the same pro's and cons as ice wall. i use the remote to change tracks and the rotary knob to change the volume lol. but the only thing i would change my deck for would be the cd7000. i really enjoy mine.
