LMS Testing

Alpha (old series)
20mm of 1 way linear travel
56mm of excursion

New Alpha
34mm 1 way linear travel
68mm of total excursion

These are all within the gap, and will do the previous numbers leaving the gap 20%.
Regardless of it is within the gap or not. The basket will not allow that much rearword travel period. The spiders will sit on the top plate and the bottom flange of the 12 spoke where it bolts to the top plate of the motor.

It simply will not allow that much movement.

Unless you are doing it on a 18" 12 spoke, now that's a different ballpark.

LMS is giving you some screwy numbers regardless.

You never made that known to me until today.

Nice to slander someone who tries to help you.

As far as the ratings excursion ratings i gave they are not false at all. They are done with LMS testing and not Kippel and I will post full facts tonight.

I wanna know why I have been attacked about this. I have done nothing but try and help people and anyone who has actually bought from me will back me up im sure.
Why in the world would I ask you for RETAIL prices?

I'm done defending something that I have on paper, people will draw their own conclusions about a product. As always i challenge anyone to put any driver up in the same price or class range as one of our drivers.

74mm total excursion and 35mm 1 way with the 20mm top plate
that sounds like implying 74 mm xmax.

And that matters how? I can make a 7" speaker move 100mm in one direction, but that doesn't mean anything.

It is still more than 80% in the gap, the new coil is 10mm longer than the orignal wind. I want people to test these drivers and I stand behind what I say as always. Our Spyders won't stretch at full xmax and sag as alot of other peoples do, that comment was not directed as a bash to any other company on the market. With the limitations of the 12 spoke basket, we are currently developing and testing new baskets that will allow our linear travel to increase even more.
Have you ever, in your entire life, worked with the 12 spoke basket? I mean, I know you say you have, but then you make claims that are really quite impossible with that basket, leaving me inclined to believe you have no idea what "the limitations of the 12 spoke basket" are.

How far in the rearward direction can this miracle of modern science travel? At what point does the cone actually hit the spider landing? Here's a clue: at a lot less excursion than you are claiming. If you are in fact capable of 35mm linear in one direction (and based on the 12 spoke basket, it HAS to be in the forward direction), then at best, you have achieved 63 mm of linear excursion...at BEST.

BTW, since when did 80% of the coil in the gap become considered the standard for measuring Xmax? Here's a clue: it's not.

Tell you what: if you verify 35mm of linear travel OR the 74mm one way via Klippel, I will reimburse you amount for testing. That's a good opportunity for you if you're correct, but you're not, so I doubt you'll go that route.

Cheers!

NDMstang65 Nothing of the like, stating nothing but industry known facts.

As a consumer buying a tube of tooth paste that whitens your teeth, you wouldn't want to buy one that actually made them duller, now would you?

momentarylapse7 From tha past posts from both Fi & RD associates.. I feel quite a bit of tension between tha two companies.
Either someone is feeling 'threatened' or some people just need to grow up..

Good results, although you told me tha other day on tha phone, Evan..

Let's see tha rest of tha test results.
05-10-2007 12:26 PM
NDMstang65 Well not exactly..

By those numbers the soft part arrangement is moving 2mm into where steel/aluminum resides...not possible.

So the next question, how much of it is actually linear travel, and how much of it is movement .

It's not linear, if its slapping the basket.

I wanna get some unbiased testing done on these as well, if your interested contact me and i will see what i can do.
Too bad that the spider flange is only 32mm tall

They have a 50 ounce larger magnet structure, 10mm longer coil wind, as well as a new rounded backplate that added to mechanical strength. We are getting 38mm 1 way linear travel and 72mm total excursion with a 20mm top plate.
Seems with that much excursion they would do nice in a sealed application also.

stratusrt01 Looks like a good mid level daily woofer to me, not really an SPL beast. I would think that's what RD would market them towards, not trying to burp it at 6000 watts.

slumpinhonda ive got 2 Z1's we can try out on them woofers you got can see what numbers they do in my db drag car
