gotslap? well all i kno is the amount of knowledge ive learned since joining this site is priceless but to keep this site going im willing to donate wutever it takes (within reason lol) just think of wut it would be like withour the realm??? lol wow ...wut would i do for about 2 hours everday?

ROE the forum actually consumes very little bandwidth compared to the main site. having multiple servers would cost about the same and in addition, it will be a little bit harder to manage two servers.

1980supreme is it possible to get another cheapo site for the vids? keep the forum on one... move the vids to another? you could always set the site up to delete any posts after 3 pages or a certain date? i would think that would keep cost down slightly wouldn't it?

Erthshker Wow i learn something new everyday.

Ruger on a video game forum we keep a little dial like a thermometer on the side of the forum and every month people send in a few dollars to keep the site going(meter goes up till full when donations for that month are met). it lets everyone get a quick visual idea of what we need to send in to keep our forum alive.
02-28-2006 09:18 PM
Nova Sorry for the discomfort I have brought to... But I will help the forums out, and I think some others will too.

Extremely!

But listen Shon, I meant it as a "Holy Crap" thing, not a "Yeah right" thing... I had no idea a site like this cost so much to keep together.

That takes an extreme level of compassion to keep alive, and to you we give thanks... At least I hope we all do.

well..let's see...i find out that i have to pay additional overage fees. i post the bad news because it's definitely a big issue to the upkeeping of the site. you then make a post that assumes i should have all of the hosting fees covered. how would that make you feel?

btw, you and most everyone on the forum knows that i'm very laid back

browse around for dedicated servers with at least 1.2TB of bandwidth....you'll get an idea of how much hosting fees cost.

i can't believe you would think i'm lying about the bandwidth issue...kinda sad.
I just remember seeing website names being only $20 a year!!! I am thinking it is close to $2k a year, eh?

It's not asking for support, it is just having the option for people to get something unique.

If everyone on the site buys something that is "Unique" to this forum, then just get a new idea...

And that last post came out kinda wrong, didn't mean to be acusing, just wondering what % of this we came help out with.

next time get the facts straight before posting a comment like what you did . no $20 server in the world will handle the amount of bandwidth this site pulls. i just want to make it straight that i would never ask people for donations unless it's necessary.

yeah...i know. i don't like asking people for donations. i'd rather have them donate at their own will (meatload, meade, and others...thanks!). but if it comes to it, i will ask you guys for support.
