On the other hand I'm not going to buy a car strictly because it is american, it needs to meet most(if not all) of my requirements.

The Venza looks ok, but it really doesn't do it for me.
I did a comparison on this site http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm

The Venza AWD(21mpg combined) gets only 1mpg more than my intrepid(20mpg combined). But the magnum(AWD and 5.7l) gets 18...

Anywho 3mpg isn't that great a difference when comparing a 268hp 3.5l V6 to a 340hp 5.7l V8... Just saying, I'd take the V8.

I guess it would be more fair to compare toyota's 3.5l v6 to chrylers, but for the weight difference between vehicles I'd rather have the V8.

Anywho just sayin. Who knows maybe I'll find a cheap Venza haha. I'd probably get a Matrix if I get a Toyota anyways, at least their made in canada, and a little cheaper than the Venza(but they have less balls I guess ).

Anywho the magnum is not completely ruled out, but I am still thinking about the Legacy right now.

Regardless it'll be a while before I have enough cash to get a car. Once I get my Gov't tax return I'll be half way there. But I have to save for school too.
eh, all reasonable ideas either way, its a toss up.

To insinuate that I'm a traitor based on the idea that I do not support my own country, well that's just plain moronic.

http://www.toyoland.com/toyota/plants.html

Toyota has more than enough plants in the US and north America in general, I say that they do a damn good job of supporting our economy.

But I'll let you get back to your whole ignorant idea that by not "Buying American" that I'm not a supporter of this country.

Actually, in fact, I'm not, I think the country as a whole, the people, are not so bad. The way it is being run, and the way our belief structures are founded upon it, make it absolute trash.

The 6.1 is a little too much power for a daily driver IMO.

Fallen I get snow, and a lot of it. That's something that I hate about my intrepid. It's horrible for winter driving. I have no traction. I have P225/60R16 sized tires, they aren't huge, but they aren't small by any means, and I still slide around like nothing.

So yeah, the Legacy is definately near(if not at) the top of my list. I just really want something american. I could go with the magnum, it has AWD as an option, plenty of balls etc. But I can't justify the 12mpg...maybe if I wasn't going back to school and had a full time job.

Anywho we'll see what is cheapest/easiest to get my hands on.

Thanks for the input

duvanator just read your first post and you do have the Legacy, thats what i drive, but not the hatchback, just the sedan. i dont have a massive system, but even when theres 5 people in there the car still has some get up. imho you cant go wrong with subaru
05-21-2009 10:39 AM
duvanator I can vouch for subaru's boxer engine. going on 20 years and running strong, only minor things have been fixed in the cars 20 years, NOTHING with the engine though.

also depending where you live and if you get snow, you cant beat AWD
05-21-2009 10:15 AM
armykyle1 magnum!!!!!

That's what I'm thinking too.

I think now it comes down to what is cheapest when I get rid of my car.

03protege, Yeah they would, but I think the 15 in a horn would too. From what I can tell it would be fairly flat(because that's the way I'm designing it, I don't want a fart machine) like my 15s right now in the 4th order. We're talking about a horn with a path length of 330cm, or a 25Hz horn. Which is pretty low for a driver with an FS of 39, but necessary to play down to 30Hz with authority, while taking up only 193l (7cuft approx.).

Anywho here is the half space response of the 4 12s in a 6cuft box tuned to 33Hz, vs the 15 in the aforementioned horn. Both with 3500Wrms. The dark grey is the 15, the light grey is the 4 12s. I would argue that the 15 would sound pretty darn good. Although keep in mind once in a car the low end will be boosted even more, and the 15 will have an even flatter response(I hope, sometimes funny things happen with horns in cars).

Either way, once it's all folded it's going to be about 8cuft or so, so I'll need to figure a way to fit that in the back of something.

But either way I'm just thinking out loud.

03protege yeah but you know 4 mach 5's sounds sooo good
05-19-2009 08:11 PM
Fallen Hmm I think I might go with 4 12s instead. It looks like 15s will be a pain in the ass to fit. Especially since I still want to see out the back window.

I'm debating on 4 Mach5 IXL12.2.2s on a AQ3500D. But I might just stick with the eduhhhh subs I have now, and just upgrade the amp. Since the 4 12s aren't really more efficient at all, and the extra power handling only gives them a slight edge over the 16os anyways.

Bah....I hate being indecisive. Maybe I'll just get one 15" Mach5 SPL sub and do a damn horn lol. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I'm really starting to take a liking to the Subaru Legacy. It's a good size, and decent on gas. Only downside is it's and import lol. But it has everything else I want.

idk thats just what my auto teacher told me. he told me that some of the japanese car companies dont sell ALL of their engine parts, just some. and if u happen to need a part that they dont make, pow, new motor.
04-21-2009 07:15 PM
Fallen Thanks for the link Gmonk, they are definitely a good choice.

Something like that. Yeah, its alot of miles, but on a diesel VW, its barely broken in. I had one, my uncle had one. He put 215k miles on his in 15 months and didnt have to bring it to the shop except for new tired and brakes every now and again. Not a single mechanical problem and he drove it like he stole it.

Would be great for the weight too. Since its diesel, it actually has a 4,500lb tow rating, so it can definately pull some weight.

I can show you how to get about 10 cubes outta the trunk, but you'll need to remove the rear seats and cut the flashing. And remove the trunk springs. That's how all my installs have been, except the first in their it was 4 cubes for 2 18s tuned to 40Hz(for SPL...I hated it.)

Basically I want a reliable, hatchback that gets at least 25mpg combined, that can merge one expressways without a problem...all for under 10 grand...

I might change the system plans later, but in for now I'll likely have the backseats down all the time, for a mini wall thats a 6th order series tuned bandpass. I need about 48DX36WX20H to fit it, which should be easy in any hatch with the rear seats down.

...**** it I might as well wall my intrepid haha.
get the mazda. just keep in mind that most cars with that much weight arent gonna be that quick. unless of course u get a big motor, but that would kill your gas milage. you just gotta tell yourself that you tradeoff power for gas milage, and your final goal seems more gas efficient than high power. mazda ftw
