Re: Re audio xxx
oh why of course i was going to start a build log very soon so you can see my progress and throw input in the design of the box. I want it to take up the whole trunk and the subs be in the back seat so there wont be any room for anyone to sit. That way i wont be sufficating this monsters ya know.

ahh maybe this old man may know something about car audio..age means zilch in car audio...its about homework..fieldwork..communication..and trial and error. Im a mere 31 hardly old. Make sure you post pics ..I'm sure we all would love to see these batteries and h/o alternator you have being built!

Re: Re audio xxx
5 of almost any of xs's bats should be enough.
5 d3100's might be enough for 2.
if there strappable then the 3 12's idea isn't bad.
personally sundown nightshade v2's would be my choice.

Re: Re audio xxx
i’m not going to use two 4kw for one sub but i am thinking about using two for 3 12’s. yes the 4kw are strapable... I am willing to go the distance on my system and try out both subs i am what you would call a bassaholic haha. I have now been leaning toward two 15’s.. So now as for electrical i have a 300amp alt being built as i type should i go bigger i also have 5 xs power batts dont have the numbers off hand, shall that be enough for my one 4kw?

Re: Re audio xxx
I know this may not seem relevant but, are you really going to spend that much on those two 15's? Dont get me wrong id love to have them myself but after beating myself over the head daily for paying the cost of these w7's ive learned my lesson. Having said that although these speaker do like larger boxes the sealed recommendation is actually not all that big. Two would easily fit and be powered well off of one memphis 4k. If i were you thats where i would start.

Re: Re audio xxx
cleaned up.
you ladies wanna keep your estrogen down from now on?
at any rate, are those 4kw's strappable?
if not i wouldn't run 2 4kw's on 3 12's. gain matching 2 different amps on 1 sub isn't generally advisable.
infero is right, 4kw's are power hogs and are very touchy if you don't have enough electrical. if nothing else when you go to add a 2nd your going to have to get creative fitting enough batteries in the trunk of your buick. you'll need at least 6 group 31 batteries and the biggest alt made for your car.

Re: Re audio xxx
i beleive people tune their 18's lower to be louder and move more air which depletes the ability to play the higher notes (of course it is all install dependent). and from my experience and definitely not a end all beat all factor but 12's are usually tuned a lil higher to compensate for inability to move as much air. once again my 2 pennies

Re: Re audio xxx
Really though? Thats not what my ears tell me. 12’s seem to hit highs better than 18’s but than again thats just me. I get the cone area but are my ears playin tricks on me?

Re: Re audio xxx
nah its true bro 4's hypothetically are just as capable as playing the same frequencies. your talking about how loud it sounds when playing, and of course the 18 is gonna win that battle with all that extra cone area. but lets say 1 18 vs x number (equal to cone area of an 18) 4 inch woofers (both subs being the same) will sound about the same.

cone size does NOT dictate frequency reproduction.. a 4" sub is very well capable as an 18" sub to produce the exact same frequencies.

In regards to the 2 15’s i was thinking maybe but i would prefer 12’s or maybe 2 12’s and a 15? i have plenty of room i dont care about the back seats

Re: Re audio xxx
agreed @ severe..I know initially he stated 12's..me personally Id do 15's over 12's and he stated spl & sound quality. And Im sure we are all in agreement on the xxx Has both covered..he also stated soon to be (3) woofers and another amp? and toward the end I read buick centry and Im like (1) xxx 15 would be hard enough @ 4 cubes..I cant see 2 15 xxx's in a 98 century

Re: Re audio xxx
I'd personally run 2 xxx 15's in that trunk with that much power. The one 4k should suffice for both drivers.

Re: Re audio xxx
if u havent installed that memphis 4k yet or purchased it..id look elsewhere also...cuz get ready for some serious electrical upgrades to power it..it is extremely power hungry...I know Ive owned one!

Re: Re audio xxx
lol @ ^^^^
Anyway i was thinking to start off with for the 1 xxx it would sit in a 3.5 - 4cu sealed just to try and i will have a ported box tuned to whatever the lowest it is said to hit is, i think it was 28hz? Ill double check. Anyway its come down to the xxx and the crossfire xspl v2. Think that will be enough cubes for the RE? i can always fit bigger i will get the full cu. Of my trunk tomorrow. 98 buick century if that helps anyone for now..

I like big enclosures tuned very low! I have around 50 mm of xmax depending on which model of year you bought of me. I eat da lows

Re: Re audio xxx
Give us some dimensions for where the enclosure will go. This way we can give you a better idea as to what you can physically fit.
