Copper Lugs - Automotive & Marine

Obviously use the 1/4" stud for best connection but some things you need to go larger.

Cable Cutter

I can cut my 3/0 with that guy... its a little tough but definitely a nice tool.

Either get this...

Hydraulic Crimping Tool Kit 8 Ton Electric Wire Crimper | eBay
or
Solderless Connector Crimping Tool

obviously the hydraulic is eaiser to use but the hammer one used with a vice works wonders.

EDIT: once you go real crimp.. you don't go back lol. I can link a massive thread that basically states crimping > solder... but if you prefer it then its up to you man.

Thanks Guys, All this info has been really helpful. My back ground of SQ+I, has caused me to overlook things like adding resistance by soldering all my connections. I have order all the necessary wire, lugs and a crimping tool. Hope to have the voltage up a couple volts soon.

Re: power cable thread

i crimp the put heat shrink on to make it look good...copper lugs on ebay are cheap.i drilled some from 5/16 to 3/8 and they were solid copper.

Crimp plus solder if the wires aren't restrained, otherwise just crimp for the least resistance.

yeah if you know where to look I think you can get welding wire for cheap locally in a lot of cases

Re: power cable thread

i want 2 colors ..and will probably have 2 grounds to the frame from the bank..it will be 6 batteries and have 4 2100w amp pulling off them.never hurts to have some extra cable laying around.

Re: power cable thread

And I doubt you'd need more than 60ft. Should only be 18' max each run to the rear wall of a truck, 4ft for your big 3 and 2ft to earth the battery bank.

Re: power cable thread

I didn't buy any, I just put 50ft into the cart and looked at the shipping calculator.

how much did you buy?i figure 2 runs on the hot and 1 ground run is what i need so i would order 75 feet ..could use it for grounding the nattery bank to the frame as well.

It says it in the title. 19x70/30 means 19 braids of 70 wires in 30awg. 19 x 70 = 1330 strands. Not the typical 4100 of 1/0 car audio cable but still flexible enough to do a 1-2" radius turn I would think.

Re: power cable thread

If being ran inside the car I prefer something flexible. If I am running under the vehicle I prefer a stiffer welding cable, as it will not sag too much.

You need to be careful with off brand cable, as their are a few that are selling undersized cable. One of the local car audio shops is struggling with this right now. He does not get enough business to afford cable from trustworthy name brands, and is constantly sending back orders of off brand cables, because it is undersized.

I usually don't recommend brands (for obvious reasons), but check out American Bass 1/0ga too.
