Re: Looking for a new headunit

alright, so you guys had me super skeptical of the deck.. made me think it would just blow hard.

so i hooked it up on my test bench. seems to work pretty damn good. i don't have a way to test the bass yet, however controls are great. had to do some manual reading because there's a LOT of features on there. pandora mode was confusing to get to, had to start playing bt audio then once pandora was running hold the back button and it switches to pandora mode. which you can thumbsup/down songs skip forward and even pick your stations. fully integrated.

now. there is a bit of low end degredation. i hooked a dmm and played tones through usb, bt, and 3.5mm cable.

bt and 3.5mm were from my phone using drop box, usb was...well... usb

the usb had the least low end degredation. 30hz was 3v 35 and up was 4v(these are on the speaker outputs of the deck, not rca's.)

bt and 3.5mm did a little worse. which makes me suspect the phone... i saw 1v at 30 2v @ 35-40 45=3v and above 45hz was 4v

Yup got my 32gig card in there. Tons of music.

My biggest complaint is it doesn't support FLAC.

And streaming the FLACs from my phone over bluetooth defeats the purpose lol.

I'm not sure where the PRS80 can be found for $250 new, but I have seen them pop up used for that price.

My 980BT has bluetooth audio capability. I stream Pandora to it every once in a while. However, the sound quality is marginal at best.
herm.. maybe bluetooth audio is still undercooked on the market.

well if it ends up sucking i'll just buy a couple huge flash drives and plug them into the rear usb plugs... but i'll be a pain in the ass about it first. i'll return a couple of decks first.

They could be similar as Kenwood and JVC are under the same roof now.

Re: Looking for a new headunit

I didn't catch your budget. I really like the JVC's bluetooth integration, it comes with a dongle, but they have 2 inputs so you don't have to pull it in and out. I've been really impressed with the last few JVC decks I installed, Kenwood took them over and they pack a ton of features for the price.

Pioneer DEH-80PRS Audiophile CD/MP3/USB Car Stereo w/ Bluetooth

yea i'm not buying a prs. i'm not spending more than 160$, let alone 350$. i would much rather buy a 160$ deck and at least get a decent amp, instead of buying a prs and buying an audiopipe amp(which i would have to do)

Re: Looking for a new headunit

the 80 prs is over twice my budget and doesn't even have the whole reason i'm swapping head units, which is bluetooth.

don't get me wrong, i'd love one. i had a 880prs a few years ago and i have a 7800dvd(basically a flip out 5.1 channel 880prs) in my expo.

i don't need all that stuff in my car. i'm pretty happy with the low end pioneer thats in there now. i just want some of the newer bluetooth and android functionality built it.

80PRS is pretty much where it's at.
