Re: Computer Speakers

I did some looking around as if hypothetically LKWB bought my 2.1 set and damn, this stuff is more expensive than I thought lol. It's kind of hard to find a decent amp that I could use for some speakers in a t-line that still leaves enough money left over for decent speakers and tweeters

Re: Computer Speakers

Hey LKWB I've got a Logitech Z-2300 set that I'd sell you so you can save a few bucks and still get something that sounds great. I've been wanting to try to make a horn or t-line for my home audio system and have been passively looking to sell my current setup.

Amazon.com: Logitech Z-2300 THX-Certified 2.1 Speaker System with Subwoofer: Electronics

It's the normal Z-2300 set with a pair of Dayton Audio 2-way 6.5" bookshelf speakers. The stock 3.5" full range speakers sounded decent but really lacked in midrange so I replaced them with the Daytons and they sound great. They get loud as fawk too, I can fill the whole apartment with really loud music when it's only turned up 3/4 of the way. The 8" subwoofer is a re-labeled Tang Band and it's pretty nice. The box it's in is tuned kind of high but still manages to get down into the mid 30s. I'm not exactly blown away by the sub-stage but it's enough to shake some things in the apartment. My roommates have a $400 Beats by Dre system in the living room and they constantly remark about how mine sounds better/gets louder lol.

The amp alone in the Z-2300 is almost worth the money. It's hard to find a 2.1 amp that does 40wx2 and 120wx1 for a low price. For example, there's a Dayton 2.1 amp that does 50w rms for the substage and 25w rms x2 for the mids/highs and it costs $100 lol.

Here's an extremely in depth review of the z-2300 and the guy who wrote it seemed to love them. My modified set is even better than the stock ones :P This guy analyzes everything about the set and there's a lot of good info about the amplifiers inside it and even some frequency response graphs: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/57...ch-2300-titans

^^Hah my ears were right!! The dayton bookshelf speakers that I got can get down to 70hz and they take care of that nasty lull^^

Here's the T/S specs of the sub:

Fs = 42.95 Hz
Re = 7.80 ohms [dc]
Le = 7328.42 uH
L2 = 3120.63 uH
R2 = 52.25 ohms
Qt = 0.52
Qes = 0.57
Qms = 6.49
Mms = 50.81 grams
Rms = 2.112233 kg / s
Cms = 0.000270 m / N
Vas = 10.35 liters
Sd = 165.13 cm ^ 2
Bl = 13.755757 Tm
ETA = 0.14%
Lp (2.83V/1m) = 83.66 dB

So, look that article over. Again, I'd be willing to sell you my set for a low price It's win-win you get a nice 2.1 set and I have an excuse to build a horn/t-line

It can play return of the jedi properly.

I'm not kidding.
Anyways it's more or less a quality thing, for theaters etc.

Well not really in either respect. I would say both are similar quality but there built for different purposes. This design just happened to produce good solid bass for a large room and when compared to the other things on the market in your $150 price range its one that really stands out. Despite what many say and all the crap they get, Sony car subs WILL bang pretty decent but I think there a touch over priced compared to other options on the market.

Here's an example of a $90 12" that will take 500W rms. A pair of them will sound pretty decent on 1k believe it or not. But for $180 there are a couple of options that will take a little more power and sound a little better.

Sony XS-GS120LD (xsgs129ld) 12" Dual 4 ohm GS Series Subwoofer

They are what they are I guess. The difference really is there is a HUGE following for car subs when compared to home audio. On top of that the car audio seen is often filled by a bunch of younger guys with limited funds where the high end home audio is filled by a slightly older crowd where money becomes less of a limiting factor.

For a moment I was lost because there doesnt appear to be any audio in connectors BUT after looking over the spec sheet there is a 3.5mm on the front which could be used.

Haha, ya I was totally blown away when I first heard one. Its my buddy's radio that he has on his TV and I was instantly like "WTF is that sony"

Here is the cnet review....

Pros
Pounding bass, good sound quality, affordable price, portable
Cons
Short cables, IPod dock is flimsy, non-removable grills, bass can be overpowering,
Summary
Excellent product, great sound quality and bone-rattling bass. Sounds great with dubstep and hip-hop especially. Minor annoyances are not a huge factor. If you are a bass head, this is for you.

... need i say more lol. Although it seems the bass is good and bad lol

Re: Computer Speakers

i wouldn't particularly suggest this as computer speakers are meant to be used at short listening distances.

i took a 2.1 htib that sounded HORRIBLE as a ht and it actually does pretty well as computer speakers.

Computer Speakers

I'm thinking about buying some computer speakers just to use on my T.V in the living room. I live in a small apartment, so I don't need loud sound, but its better then the speakers screen on our flat screen. I was thinking about Logitech. I've heard some pretty good speakers from them. I don't plan on spending more then $150, and only want a 2.1 setup. So any suggestions for some speakers with good bass would be nice.
