Every time I see sound stream tarantula I think of these and I get all warm and fuzzy inside http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/152964-fs_old_school_soundstream_tarantula__davinci/images/183565/

Re: Pro's 300c/charger prebuild log

My Tarantula 1500 is still going strong after near 5 years. Did 0.5ohm nominal with a 140amp alt and 2 batts totaling 190AH. The little Stealth 4ch pumped out enough power to light up the X-overs, only issue I had with it was it got skin burning hot but I found I hadn't earthed it properly. Can't fault Soundstream for their gear.

Oh yeah, after I got new tires my road noise decreased significantly. I'm not sure if Michelain Defenders are supposed to be quiet or not, but they are a hell of a lot better than what I had. If I hit up my wheel wells with some of the sludge I bet the noise would be eliminated.

Re: Pro's 300c/charger prebuild log

glad you reminded me about that carpet pad. i was definitely planning on something like that. probably going to use some stinger road kill deadener for mass loading large pannels and that pad for sound isolation.

no idea what the enclosure placement will be like. i'm going to try a few things more than likely.

Re: Pro's 300c/charger prebuild log

On another note, my HAT Imagine 6.5s + RF 360.3 combo is probably one of the best investments I've ever made in my car. I don't see myself ever looking to change that setup and you all know how much I flopped around before. Just keep that in mind.

The X-12 is still slamming away in the trunk wall (still haven't built the PWK box) and sounding great. The output is great for a single 12 ported but sometimes I daydream about putting it on 2.5-3.5kw and/or getting another x-12. Trunk wall is also highly recommended but you know that

Re: Pro's 300c/charger prebuild log

Pro, in regards to sound deadening I have got to recommend high density, memory foam carpet pad (3/8") and similar laminate flooring underlayment. I installed it all quite some time ago and it is by far one of the best thigns I've done for my car. To refresh your memory here's the thread on CACO: Car Audio Classifieds

SS's Luxury Liner is 1.25lb/ft^2, 1/8" thick, and $3.88/ft^2 - I have some of this stuff and it's awesome. Let's do one more comparison with their Luxury Liner Pro; 1.2lb/ft^2, 1/4-1/2" thick, and $5.55/ft^2.

...$.79/ft^2 for .9lbs/ft^2 sounds pretty good compared to $5.55 for 1.2lb/ft^2
I know you don't have Menards out there but Lowes and HD carry similar stuff, you might spend a little more money though. Put the carpet pad anywhere it will fit: behind trim, under the carpet, etc. Put the laminate underlayment ($.55/ft^2) anywhere the pad won't fit.

Pair that with some high quality deadener and you're set.

Yeah I really want to run a set of those in my doors.

You buy them first so I know if its worth my money.

Re: Pro's 300c/charger prebuild log

well throw up some 120$ 6.5's to replace the cl69's then. I'm likely just going to buy both a set of 6.5's and the 6x9's ant test them against each other.

Re: Pro's 300c/charger prebuild log

I'm assuming the 6x9s are going in the rear deck? If they are, just pull them out. Pointless rear fill. If they're going in the doors, find some oversized 6.5" components and build baffles.

Re: Pro's 300c/charger prebuild log

I think it would sound better with 6.5s. Plus open your options up to better speakspeakers. I love cdt and run them right now. I've justjust never liked the sound of 6x9s.

Re: Pro's 300c/charger prebuild log

you really think these cdt 6x9's are that bad? they'll only be running like 55-1000hz ultimately. i def wont want to run the 3.5's down to 55hz.

That's why I said just build baffles and run bad ass 6.5 midbasses

Re: Pro's 300c/charger prebuild log

6x9s are absolutely pointless if you're running a subwoofer.

Re: Pro's 300c/charger prebuild log

So the factory amp is more than an amp. The eq and fader functions are all done in the amp. With that said I think I'm going top hold off on the 4 channels for now. Ill end up getting a sundown 125.4 and 50.4 down the road with a threesixity.3 to replace what I'll lose with the factory amp. For now itll be the vifa full ranges, cdt 6x9s, 1500d, and x15 it looks like.

Re: Pro's 300c/charger prebuild log

If you find those fullrange don't quite fill to your liking, I'd recommend the CDT coaxs. I got a pair of 3s for a friend's semi, they sound great and get fairly loud just off deck power.
